  1. Awwww, she is sooo cute!(hopes it is a she)
  2. You could cage the wigglers, so mom or dad can't eat them or anyone else. I tried it, but that girl did everything and everything to eat the eggs. and she would knock the cage down. I cant think of anything else for while they are still in the main tank. But just some info i learned. Once they are in their own tank and if mom keeps eating the eggs. Remove mom and leave dad. He will raise the babies on his own. I think that it is more likely that mom eats them , then dad. HTH Jen
  3. well i went to check out my new apistos from Jonah. The lights were out in the bedroom they were in. So i found this morning a bunch of little wigglers. Thanks so much Jonah. Anything i need to know? Also it was my discus weekly lay time and well to make this a short story. I FINALLY GOT WIGGLERS. i cant tell you how excited i am. I already know the chances of them living in that tank are slim as i felt bad for them continuing to try and put some gravel and decorations in it until they got it right.
  4. WOW, she looks really good. Good pictures.
  5. How the heck did you do that? Been trying to get mine to the wiggler stage for A REALLY LONG TIME. I have two pairs that lay every week. Eggs are fertilized too. GETTING MAD HERE! i was thinking my water is too hard. Whats your hardness reading? I swear i have done everything and now im planning for a water softner or trying rain water first, before i decide to give up. By the way congrats and good luck. Just know i am extremely jealous of you.
  6. Thanks for verifying that. i've had them for a few months now and i haven't seen babies before that. So i guess i have to hope that it is one of the newest two. Any ideas on how tell which ones of the other ones could be males?
  7. Thank you for the info. I don't the male is gimped by birth. Its a swim disorder.Don't think that would affect the fry?? And i am not completely sure who the dad would be. I got the m/f as a pair and got more to join them. Which are relatively the same size as the male who has the swim disorder, The original owner would have to verify that though.I don't see anything wrong with him other then he has a hard time swimming. I will just keep a better eye out on the who really is the father or not. And watch the growth of the babies. Also its a julie only tank. So no problems there.
  8. I guess my julie's have been busy cause when i went downstairs to feed them. There were two fry in the flower pot. Just two. I'm hoping more are hidden somewhere. I will get pictures when i clean the glass(algea) but does anyone have any information on breeding them or raising fry? Is it best to remove them or keep them with the parents? I know i have one female, i gimped male, and 2 others that i would assume or two young to sex yet. I didn't think gimpy had it in him, maybe he does.
  9. When the parents move the fry somewhere. You could try catching the,. Or suck them out with the gravel vac into a bucket. I also like to use a ear cleaner. to suck the fry up but in a tank that big it might be a bit harder. or if its a cave or flowerpot(sorry dont know how they breed) you can move wherever they hide the fry. Good Luck
  10. i don't think it will hurt the wigglers, Just take water and filter from the tank they are in and put it in another. Then leave a bit of water. Then suck the wigglers out with something. They will be fine. I would be more concerned about going to bed and waking up and having them all gone cause the tank leaked way to fast or something. The parents will breed again if something happens. I wouldn't hurt to try. Plus now they are barely moving, if you wait until they are free swimming they will be much harder to catch. Good Luck Congrats on the fry and sorry about the leak.
  11. Looking Good Darcy. How long did it take you? Nice couch  seems we got the same taste in furniture, my couch is the sectional version. be sure to take pictures with the tanks on it.

    hello

Hi Corey, welcome to the site. I see your from Red Deer, I wonder if i've seen you around
  13. Hello and :welcome: My other half uses my name too.
  14. Glad to here they are all well. Its always nice to get your dream ones. Discus are happy kept in groups of 6 and more. I think only when there are smaller numbers in the group you need dithers. And even in that case you already have 9 tetras, which would serve as dithers. Good luck and cant wait to see pictures.
  15. i thought she would have had them sooner, I ended up getting some friends, which turned out to be all female. So I guess that there will be more babies soon. If there aren't already eggs in the shells which some of the fish seem to be guarding. They look pretty big tho. I read that they were really really tiny. So i have no idea how long they were really in there for.
  16. sorry about the crappy pictures Making my discus count 2m/2f. I traded females. So i don't count on these eggs lasting as its the egg eater. But i am tempted to buy RO system , just to get wigglers. Then my very unexpected surprise. My multi's have been busy.
  17. I love the way the babies look when they are that small. Thanks for sharing.
  18. Oh he looks much better. It looks like he was rolled in gold dust. Very cool.
  19. Always when my fish look that way , before i think its something wrong. I one time had this discus acting like she was a circus clown doing spins, getting stuck upside down. could not swim nothing. I freaked. i was also leaving town. I add one tablespoon, of epsom salts, per 10 gallons of water And by the time i got home she was fine. Try that first. Its like a laxative. Good luck, see how that works first. Jen
  20. I think they are harmless to adult fish, But eat babies They live in really clean tanks. Thats only what i read tho. Not sure about keeping and getting rid of them. I wouldnt want them in a baby tank. Heres a link on hydra http://www.northern.edu/natsource/INVERT1/Hydra1.htm
  21. If you dont want to raise the apisto eggs. I got a spare ten gallon laying around. I could do it for you Those puffers are starting to look more colorful. good job
  22. Lots of places to hid for the babies. Its a nice tank. In the last picture i cant even see one baby. Well maybe one hiding beside the Ebjd.
