  1. about 3 inches and fat but that matters not now, I just found them Both Dead in my Tank today! So sad. The stress of the meds was probly too much I had to run 2 cycles of Ich meds back to back. But I would still like to know if they are compatible with Tanganikans.
  2. In my male peacock Tank I've added three male tanganikans Compresseps,Leulopi, and brachardi. Ok so I forgot how to spell the real genus names but you can figure it out. Anyways until now my Clown loaches have been super active during day and feeding with all others and happy. Now that my Tanganikans are in the have been laying a lickin on my loaches, Then my loaches contracted ich probly cause of stress and now that I've taken care of that they are freaked out and shaking in the little spots of the tank. Any advice other than get rid of the loaches. The tanganikans are not actively going after the loaches it's just they never have been bossed around before until now.
  3. I currently have about 6 plants of different species in my peacock Tank, also has some tanganikans in there. No problems with plants being chewed. At first they nipped at them but then I scaled up my feedings until they stopped nipping, works great just like training dogs I say. A fish with a full belly I find never seems to bother plants. Mbuna on the other hand that's a different story all together. Good Luck.
  4. Friend of mine has bought some replacement bulbs from Bartle and Gibson for much cheaper than any hydroponic store or LFS. Not sure the spelling is correct on the name but check it out. Yes they are located in Edmonton
  5. Thanks for the info, I've read lots of books on this subject already. I actually started in the hobby with salt tanks. My largest was 230 Gallon. I've never had a small salt tank just large ones so it's a bit different. Also about the algae control anything for glass besides snails??? Also should you run open water on Salt tanks or does it matter???
  6. I guess no one wants to help me out.
  7. I'm starting up a 54 Gallon Corner Salt Tank- Need some advice. Gonna start with Live Rock- Any particular area of the world better than others, or is home grown just as good?? How long does it take to Cure live rock?? How much would I need??-I was told 1Lb per gallon Aprox. I would like to do Corals, soft and hard, Clams,Starfish Etc. also I like the look of cleaner and blood shrimp. What livestock would mostly stay away from Corals and shrimps??? Algae control??? The only methods I know are Gobies for Bottom and Snails for Glass any others???? Livestock???? That size tank, Perculas???? I'm not crazy about Wrasses they tend to be jumpers! I'm avoiding large Fish obviously! Do I need a Protein Skimmer on that size tank or will extra water changes be enough??? I've always used the Red Sea Skimmers are they still a good brand??? I'll probly just run my Rena XP2 on it. Is that enough Flow???? Would I have to run a Small Powerhead???? Should I run Open-water??? I'll probly run a T5 light is that sufficient for most corals??? So many questions feel free to answer then for me! Thanks
  8. Wow that is a big fish, jeepers. I agree with you on the depth's of the tanks. I have found only a few species like discus that appreciate Depth as well as width and length. It's nice to see all the input. I guess after my initial investment, all have to buy some livestock, Yikes that might be expensive but at least I could do it slowly not all at once.
  9. Well I do get a discount on multiple Tanks of that size. The dimensions are 72X24X28 nice size. So many choices I guess by the sounds of it. My quote for 15 ft long tank on three sides of a room was about 50,000. So I opted for 9 large standard size tanks side by side that way I can control disease, population and breeding. It's going to cost I figure about $10,000 for all tanks and stands. It's kinda a big project but I figure I love the hobby and know enough about large tanks to handle it. It's just that darn breeding thing I've been trying for about 1 month now, I'll see how that goes. Does anyone know what the largest Cichlid species is and would I be able to house it comfortably in a 210 Gallon?
  10. Ok in theory if you had to stock 9 - 210 Gallon Aquariums with various cichlids. What kinds of combinations can you guys come up with, I have my own but wanted some diffrent opinions. No I'm not starting a fish store but my own multi tank basement room.
  11. So how do you actually get the female to release little ones,do you grab her in your hand and lift her out of water or do you massage her in some way.
  12. Well the fish never really moves it's mouth at all, especially not to open it. Most of my fish will sometimes do what looks to be a yawn but this one lately nothing. The color on the top fin makes it seem like it's a male but maybe I got a different species than what they told me. Can anyone identify this one for me,I've been looking all over for a picture. Haven't seen it poop yet but I'll try and watch for that tonight.
  13. Well I guess their is a slim chance of that but I don't think so. This tank holds only Male Peacocks. At least that's what I thought, As far as I know this fish is a Maleri Sunshine Peacock. Is their any way to identify this species from the photo, can anyone help in that respect. Also I have kept his fish with only male peacocks for over 4 months now and nothing like this. Would have thought that if the fish is female she would have become pregnant a lot sooner.
  14. My Peacock has not eaten in 2 days and I worry he might have Malawi Bloat. I did add 1 new fish a couple of weeks ago but he is not picked on by any fish. He is a little more timid than the rest but has kinda always been that way. My Water is good I change 20% twice weekly and always use Marine Salt in my water to stave off some ailments. Water Temp is about 78.8 degrees. Here is a picture, The lower mouth seems to be a little inflamed and bloated as seen in picture, I've watched him for long periods and he doesn't seem to even open his mouth at all even just swimming around which I think is a little abnormal but not conclusive. When the others eat he comes out but seems not interested at all in eating even when pellets float right by his mouth he also doesn't graze the bottom of the tank. I would normally treat this with Metradiazol but can anyone else offer any diagnosis or treatment. I must act quickly. He seems alert his eyes are clear and he does not dart around tank or scratch. Maybe I'm paranoid but better safe than sorry I say. Please Fish Doctor help me
  15. Thanks for all the advise I'll try some of those things.
  16. Question! After you notice a female cichlid holding, How many days before you take action to try and save the little ones from certain cannabalism?? Does this depend on Species? I have Pseudo Saulosi and Flametail breeding groups. Do you seperate that female and make her cough them up into a breeding net?? I need some advice on the best way to do all this breeding stuff, I already have some growout tanks for the fry.
