  1. I don't know if you know that the ACE website is not working. Tried the link from here and one from a search engine and it says site not found.
  2. I don't know about interbreeding those two cory species. I do know that false julli and weitzmani will interbreed and grow up. I have a few in my tank. They are rare thou. Most of the time my groups stick with the same species.
  3. Very pretty shrimp. They must of cost a pretty penny for such a nice red color.
  4. Got some cories, cherry barbs, some mags and books and some plants. Had a good time at the auction-I always do. Thanks again to the people who work so hard to put on the auction.    The drive home was a nightmare the Yellowhead was very very slippery and we saw two accidents and a few cars in the ditch before the turn off to Hwy 43. One involving a semi who clipped a jeep and hit the ditch and just about came out on our side of the divided hwy. Lucky for us as we travelled the roads got a little better. Syno321- is the club thinking of moving the auction date because of the other conference you are hosting? Just so you know February is not a good travel month for me the roads are bad. But hey there is always the conference.

    Hi

Welcome. What sized tank is it? If you like small fish tetras, guppies, platies, mollies, cories are easier first fish. If you like larger fish then some of the cichlids are a first fish-I don't keep them but others on here will chime in on the best first cichlids for new fish keepers. Good luck.
  6. very beautiful fish. Hope they breed for you. Good luck!!!!!!
  7. How many days can 1" plecos go without food? I am heading to the lake on Friday for a few days, I don't want to come home to starved babies. They normally can eat a small zuchinni a day. Thanks.
  8. Are you wanting fry? If yes do you want to save them all or do you want survival of the fittest? If it is survival of the fittest then let the females free swim and release their fry when they are ready and comfortable. THe quickest and smartest fry will survive-to help this add some java moss or riccia or guppygrass(all live) or some plastic plants that look like hornwort. These also help the female hide from the boys. If you don't want fry at all then I would rehome the females and keep your males. As the ratio is way off with only 2 females and they will be stressed with so much male attention. Females guppies are forever pregnant as they store sperm for up to 6 month so even if you didn't have a male you still will get fry. The usual ratio is 2+ females for every male. Your males look good- their tails are really nice and huge. Males with huge tails do have trouble swimming sometimes especially with strong currents. They can also have problems breeding as the females can swim away quicker and can evade the males. They also are at a disadvantage with other smaller tailed males as those are the ones that can breed easily with the females. That is one of the reasons that you keep fancy large tailed guppies with fancy guppies and normal guppies with normal guppies if you are looking to keep tail type. Most of my guppies now are in the mid tailed to small tailed side of guppies. The larger tails have been bred away as my smaller tailed males got the females and my fancy boys were left out. Good luck with your new guppies. Also welcome to the site.
  9. Can any of the algae be rubbed off or is it really stuck on? You could also try the dark tank method, remove the anubias put it in a container with water and put it in the dark, the anubias is a low light plant so a few days/week should not affect it too much and the algae should die as it needs light more than the anubias. Good luck.
  10. Skunk loaches love snails, but they also love poking holes in live plants and are quite mean. This is from personal experience mine now live with zebra danios the only fish quick enough not to be attacked. You might just want to get some assassin snails to take care of your snail problem.
  11. welcome to the site. :welcome:
  12. I went a "little" nuts at this auction: Bought 6 bags of crypts java ferns tiger vals 2 bags of hygorphilas (which I hope not to kill) hornwort one sad anubias that I over spent on but they come back with TLC. books and mags 2 bags of corydora "peru" 2 bags of mixed cories 2 lots of stuff I like to support local breeders and plant growers as you can tell. Can't wait for the next auction-starting to save now. It seemed to be a sellers sale-stuff went for a lot. Thanks to the auctioneers and runners.
  13. Kids have a way of just saying what is on their minds. Your plecos are very beautiful and I would keep them too. All I have are ABN who are so ugly they are cute.
  14. The life of a pleco breeding pair owner, is a rough one. Where to put the fry is always a major concern. I am having the same problem right now as my breeding pair of ABN is going strong. Your plecos are cute with their stripes. Good luck with them.
  15. My male kicked out a batch of eggs. I siphoned them out and put them in a plastic floating breeder with an airstone and 5 days later they hatched. They looked like bright orange rocking horses as their eggs sacs were so big they could only rock on them and they didn't move very well. They are now over a month old and eating like little pleco pigs. I have not had any kicked eggs survive that I have known of, thou these 15 did. Papa just released another batch and I am sure he has another batch with him now. Those male BN don't know when to stop! Good luck with your fry.
  16. 81' seems really high for guppies. All my guppy tanks are at 75-78' and I don't have mass dieoffs. So is the tank filled with only female fish? or only female guppies-no males? Clamped fins can mean stress or disease sometimes ick can be hidden in the gills and you don't see it, but as it is only your guppies dying then it is most likely stress. Danios can cause stress by being very active and harassing the guppies.
  17. The fry are growing nicely and are eating zuchinni. To breed them get a nice cave with a fairly narrow opening big enough for the male to guard. I used a terra cota flower pot base with a hole bashed out and sanded. My male seems to like it. Then you condtion your male and female(s) with brine shrimp and blood worm and lots of zuchinni. The female will become gravid with eggs and she will eventually go to the cave the male picks and they lay their eggs, she then swims off and the male takes over egg and fry care until they use up their egg sacs and then the fry leave. Some BN can be picky like Jvision said. He has breed quite a few plecos. Mine have only breed a few times and I am still learning to keep the fry alive.
  18.  The BN eggs hatched. Yippee!!!!    They look like little orange hover crafts with very short rudders. They are not moving very much as their egg sacs are huge. Will keep fanning them with my turkey baster.
  19. Update: Eggs are still bright orange. I also gathered some bronze cory eggs from the same tank and they are with the BN eggs-the size difference is quite large. Can anyone tell me how longe it take for the eggs to hatch. I know that cory eggs hatch in 3-5 days depending on temp but what about BN?
  20. I have a male brislenose that kicked out 15 eggs. I wouldn't have noticed them except I was doing a water change and the eggs started to get siphoned up. Caught them in a net. I would like to hatch them-right now they are in a plastic breeding container with a airstone-I don't have an egg tumbler. How long will they take to hatch? They are bright orange. My male just had 60 fry last month but only about 6 have survived. They stopped eating and then started to die-I guess that the strongest survive. Lucky for me they breed often. I am so glad that I have fishy supplies for all occasions. Wish me luck.
  21. Nice tank and fish. Sometimes wish I had a fancy camera to take nice fish shots too.
  22. That sure is a large amount of fry. Good luck raising them.
  23. I don't know if this should be here or in the bottom dweller section. I have a breeding trio of albino bristlenose plecos- thou there is another male in the tank- I don't believe he is breeding as I always see him. In the last month I have noticed what I think is three batches of fry. Major size differences in fry. First batch was like 12 fry, next batch was like 20, the last was a single fry with its egg sac (don't know if it is a survivor or an escapee-lol). My question is how many batches of fry do you let your male have before you rest him? Do you rest males or will they stop themselves? This is the longest I have kept pleco fry alive, now that I know you have to feed them all the time.
  24. :welcome: Lots of friendly people on this forum. Nice to see new members. What colors of guppies do you have? My guppies are going crazy breeding. Might have to get some cherry shrimp from you later.
  25. Welcome-nice to see more people from my area. Lots of nice people on here.
