  1. Thank you. I ordered some cool looking cubes online that might work well. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B076D3YM79/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1509858980&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=shrimp+aquarium+cubes&dpPl=1&dpID=51lJe0JrRhL&ref=plSrch I miss the days of Nature's Corner Store.
  2. I recently returned to the hobby when I set up a 10 gallon cherry shrimp tank on my desk. I have an already established sponge filter, a piece of driftwood, a marimo ball, and a rock. Sand and gravel substrate. I'm disappointed that the little guys hide so well. I only get to see one of them at a time, more if I'm lucky. I have read that giving them more places to hide means I will get to see them more. I'm looking for cholla wood for relatively cheap. Does anyone know where to buy some in Edmonton? I've also read about almond leaves. Where would I get some of those?
  3. I was confused as I have not been here in awhile and the first Pm I got when I signed in was porn.... Thanks to Nick for getting rid of him/her so quickly!
  4. I second the platy idea. They do well in a small enclosure and they come in so many colours.
  5. He's a cute little guy. Do they usually have so much colour when they are so small? I think that is going to be a really nice fish.
  6. The bacteria should grow in your filter. You could add a sponge from an established tank to help the bacteria along.
  7. Nature's Corner Store is a good place to buy NLS. Even a small container lasts a long time. (for me anyway)
  8. Welcome to the forum.
  9. Did you read about the nitrogen cycle? Just running the tank empty does not help. There needs to be waste products put into it so the bacteria can grow. Did you test the ammonia or nitirites? Those are the big killers in a new tank. Good luck! If you have any more questions you can always ask here. Someone will answer.
  10. Killies are often sold at Aquarium Club of Edmonton auctions. There are a few members that breed them.
  11. It could be that your tank is not finished the nitrogen cycle. If your Ammonia or nitirites are too high it could have killed your fish. Link to info about nitrogen cycle: http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/biologic...trogencycle.htm What are you using to remove the chlorine/ chloramine from your water? I am not sure about Calgary but here in Edmonton we have chloramines which is added to the water with the chlorine and not all water conditioners will remove it. How often do you do water changes? You should do a regular water change of 20-40% once a week. Where did you buy your fish? If the fish was in ill health when you bought it, being put into a "fresh" or unestablished tank would kill it. What size is your tank? The fish will behave differently toward each other depending on the size/decor in your tank. If they feel exposed sometimes they can get stressed and die. What kind of filter do you have? Gouramis prefer less water movement, but you still need to move the water enough to get it clean. What kind of heating do you have? Those are all tropical fish they need it to be warm. (75-80 farenheight, correct me if I'm wrong guys) What kind of plecos did you get? Plecos are poop machines and having two of them in a small tank can make it very dirty very fast. (Refer to the nitrogen cycle link to find out why that may have killed your fish) In my opinion it was that your tank is not cycled yet. You need to get test kits for ammonia and nitirites. They are sold at any pet store. If you go to one of our sponsors you will probably get very good advice as well. I recommend Nature's Corner Store.
  12. I think I saw a fish like the last one sticking out of my congo tetra's mouth. The idiot almost choked on it!
  13. WOW! What a pretty horse! I love her delicate features.
