  1. Great! Thanks for the info T-man. Even better to hear there local!
  2. Was just checking out there webpage and they dont have a location of where there based out of...not much info at all available about this Monster Fish Bowl place.....? By the looks of the rays you got from them they seem good to deal with for quality of there stuff but how is one to get a hold of them or find more info and testimonials?? Thanks
  3. Very spectacular looking Rays! Congrats on your new pick ups! What did you end up with Males Females or one of each??
  4. I have used play sand for years with no problems ever. I usually just give it a good rinse and all is fine. I have kept planted tanks as well with no issues. Also as for the thickness of the sand bed I dont see it being that big of a deal either as I have had sand bed from a half in all the way to 3-4" even and still no problems. One of my current aquarium setup has approx 3" of a sand bed and has been going about 3 years with no problems.
  5. Most of the time if they loose them they will pick them up again whether they eat them or not depends on if she feels here eggs are threatened and she will just eat them due to her feeling its the best for them........ This is where a Egg Tumbler come in great use lol Hint Hint.......Just saying..... Good luck!
  6. Hey I have been keeping Fronts of and on for years now. Great fish to work with! I currently have 16 burundi frontosa currently but all still young about it the 2" range also. Held all them back from a few breeders I had in the past and hope to grow this group up and maybe get back to breeding them again in the future. Currently feeding them NLS. I have tried to introduce a few different fish with them but never worked out lol they all just seemed to bombard the new added fish and nip at them like crazy so just left them as a group of fronts and like it this way. I used to keep a very large collection on African Cichlids in the past but with the busy life I have now I chose to keep the fronts. They are nice to just sit back and watch after a stressful day lol. Currently they are in a 90gal but soon to be upgraded.
  7. Yes once I move forward with the build I will be sure to post some pics! Currently I am just making the plans up for a customer of ours for another use but it has me inspired a bit to build them for myself for some rays lol! Breeding would come later hopefully. Im used to keeping them in aquariums but have been thinking a lot about them doing better in large ponds with more room!
  8. I was thinking that the shallow 12" water level would help to induce breeding activity as with the research I have done in most rays they at times will breed in shallower waters as in most rays there breeding/courting insists with a splashing behavior at times. The ponds im considering building would be around the 12"H x 3' x 8' for adults and grow out ponds approx 12" x 3' x 4' Not totally set in stone yet but looks this will be the way i go. I do agree that the 24" tall can be what some prefer but for the amount of time they really use the depth of water is very minimal I find as usually they will only use the depth for swimming to the surface in reach of getting food before others or to act out breeding behavior (splashing)
  9. So with what I can find online in regards to water depth I have found that others are stating that a minimum of 12" is fine for them. Correct me if any others might have any further info in regards to this info. Most info im finding states that they mostly only require the length and width. Makes sense but I would like to hear others suggestions. Thanks!
  10. Hey everyone just wondering if any of you stingray keepers could help me out here with the minimum water depth that a freshwater stingray (motoro or leo) would be best kept in. I have been considering building a few grow out ray ponds as well as adult ray ponds and am wondering how shallow would be too shallow for them ans both pups and as well for adults? I know that rays do like to swim up and down the glass of normal aquariums but wondering is it really that necessary for them and would they be perfectly comfortable in a shallow pond environment with more length and width rather then height also?
  11. Just wondering if anyone one here has found a place in calgary that sells a good selection of bulkhead fittings? Thanks for any info!
  12. Usually when they come in that small the hard part is getting them to eat well. Usually you will see quite a few of them die off and only 5% of them will survive but be very hard to get them eating. I would sugest before buying be sure they are eating in front of your own eyes and have good meat to the body.
  13. Sorry for your loss I have had losses of fish that hit me pretty hard and I feel for you. Rays being one of them and it pulled me away from fish keeping for some time.
  14. If I remeber correctly im pretty sure you started a great thread on a step by step on how you built some. With pics....
  15. Hey welcome back!! Funny thing is I have been gone for about 2 years as well and just came back to AA as well. Look at that 2 of us back in less then a week! I think the fish fever is traviling around fast lol. Congrats on the new baby boy!!
