  1. Look Great !! when you ever decide to put em up for adoption please keep me in mind Cheers
  2. OK so here is is an honest attempt at advice on this guy. 1) yes keep the water as clean as possible, change 20% daily 2) I use Melafix for any wounds, the melalueca tree oil promotes fish's own natural healing process, time may vary but it works fairly quick 3) ensure good current and oxygenation of the water, this will also ensure healing with high o2 taken in by the gills 4) Don't just throw pellets only in for food as it may take a week or more to try eating pellets by then it may be too weak and malnourished from it's experiences. I feed mine raw prawns, try stuffing food sticks or pellets into the prawn to introduce vitamins and minerals that may be lacking to its diet. One thing people do is feed lots of pellets etc to live food then feed them to the Aro. I'd wait until it's fully healthy to try only pellets, now is maybe not the best time to switch. When you do I find it helped to have other fish around who eat pellets to show the Aro it's good to eat. That worked for me my Indo Dat showed the Aro pellets are good. I still alternate between frozen food and pellets to vary the diet on all my fish. 5) post pics when possible, good luck !!
  3. Hi Fishlover, yes these are yours and I also got a bunch elsewhere so it was/is a fair size shoal... I feel so bad for them all when this happens. I can subdue the lighting for sure and there is a good mix of open space and wood/plants etc. So far the recommendations are corys and rams, any other suggestions maybe a good tetra or rasbora, I have some Barillius Canarensis but they may be a bit busy for the angels ??
  4. So I have a tank full of Altum angels and lately they have been extra skittish and have lost 5 in the past 2 months because they smash into things as they try to seemingly escape from nothing. It's never been this bad before. The water is good, it is a huge tank in a medium to low traffic area, their only tank mates are a pair of Festivums and a Peckolita. That may be the problem, the way I see it is they seem easily frightened when you walk close for the first time and all the fish react the same way until being fed. In my other tanks they're like lost puppy's happy to see you. I am thinking perhaps some sort of mild dither fish like certain tetras to provide some regular distraction to disrupt the "trance" or mindset of the Angels. What do the other fish whisperers think ?
  5. I've had lots of them until recently. They're my second favourite after the Altums which I have now. They are quite lively and inquisitive fish. I love the yellow and greenish hue to their bodies. They don't mind other fish and enjoy lots of plants, they will eat duckweed so that's a good thing to have a little vegetable matter in their diet. When they're done eating sometimes they can be seen gulping air at the top of the tank, I think it's something to do with digestion and evolution, it's a common behaviour so don't let anyone tell you they're sick or anything. They grow fast and live for years, I've had them pair up but never noticed a spawn. Enjoy
  6. Wow that guy is huge !! Nice Motoro If I may comment, you might consider keeping him well fed as I have known some stingrays to trap and eat smaller fish like that angelfish. Even better to remove the rainbows and angelfish from that gar as well. The large predators in the tank can make those fish very nervous and stressed.. IMO. try and stick with a predator tank or much larger fish with them in general. Cheers
  7. I didn't know they bred in captivity... nice work even if accidental
  8. I always buy Ol' Blue at PJ's Pets. it one of the few places that carry the full strength stuff that says "just a drop ich will stop" on the label. try there for the good stuff. other kinds Ive tried are watered down and don't work as well

    Hello :-)

Welcome aboard ... What kinda fish do you like ?
  10. good point, perhaps they could cross breed with a similar species and then breed back to itself to get its distinct traits again ?? possibilities
  11. Those little beads I believe are steel and are just to hold the bottom down to keep it upright. The red liquid is dyed alcohol. Most thermometers are alcohol thermometers. I wouldn't give it a second thought...
  12. Calling all fish hoarders !!! lol It is a real shame actually. To see another species go down the drain to speak, just like many others that no longer exist in the wild, be it Redtail sharks which are only in captivity or the Iranocichla Hormuzensis I've been looking for lately with none in NA or the EU available and little trace left in the wild...
  13. no doubt eh, There are three known in captivity with two in Bristol over 12yrs old and one in Berlin and it killed the last known female in 2010
  14. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22468206 Check this link out.. The BBC article is a world wide appeal for saving a species of Madagascan Cichlid. They require a female to try and mate with one of three known males left in captivity to save the species. It's one I've never heard of but if word gets around... you just never know Cheers
  15. I have a 14" Indo Dat and and 12" Monoculus P Bass They are my favs
