The crack came from over tightening it. Had a bit of a drip at O-ring on connector and ...Oops. After it happened I went to Big Als in Edmonton and bought an extra set of connectors and extra hose and have never had to use them. Like I said though the outlet hose on my oldest canister is getting rather brittle and I will probably change it out soon. (4 years ish) For media I run a mish mash of stuff. Mostly aquaclear or fluval biomedia and pre-filter stuff since I can get it in town or Red deer - whatever is cheapest while I'm there. The only thing I use from eheim is the blue sponges since they fit to the sides of canister. rarely have to buy any though since I squeeze out the old ones and re-use. Floss I jam in a bunch of generic to fill the top.

May as well share my experience as well. For me I have four Eheim classics running for three years and some newer Fluval's on my 90g tanks. I started out with only classics but had an issue with a cracked connection (one of the double shut-offs on the intake) after cleaning a tank and had to crazy glue it for a fix until I could drive to Edmonton to get parts. Now I run an Eheim and a Fluval brand (305/405) as backup on two of my tanks. Fluval parts are way more readily available. I can even get some here in Ponoka if I am in a bind. As far as performance I find the classics great. Maintenance wise the hoses are starting to get brittle and I will probably start to switch them out after a few years.

In looking online it seems that any other cichlid of size in the 90g would pretty much be a crap shoot even if I start them both small. I would rather not have to yank one or the other out of the tank later. I'm thinking the responsible thing would be to just put some dithers in and pamper him... I saw a post on MFK of a guy saying he was trying to use sailfin mollies as dithers, kind of makes sense as they would be dithers/feeders. Any one else tried this? Or any other Dither fish to try in 90g other than SD's? PS. Have you seen any good looking GT's for sale in Alberta, preferably Edm?

hello all, Around New Years I had a tank crash in my 90g Angel tank in which I lost a couple plecos, angel, and a group of Congos and am thinking of starting out fresh with a male green terror. Those humps are wicked. Gorgeous fish. I was wondering what kind of tank mates would be possible for a tank this size. Right now the tank is planted but I am not too worried about the plants. At worst I can feed them to my other 90g which has silver dollars in with an Oscar. The SD's would appreciate it. haha. I realize that its basically a 75 with some headroom so I am not sure if its possible to put another cichlid in there(?) If so what have you guys had luck with? The other route would be dither fish. I already have silver dollars as I said so would be looking for something new. The 90g in question currently has a YoYo and some guppies in it along with a few neon tetras. I have some smaller tanks to move these fish into.

Hello all, I have a 90g comm. planted tank that until recently I had a pair of mating angelfish in. Unfortunately a week ago the smaller female angel was being herded into the bottom corner of the tank by the big angel(male), and the next day the female angel was dead. I don't know what the issue was, they had been paired up for almost two years. He is pretty big, at about 6" I would guess front to back. I am wondering if it would be possible to add some other larger fish into the tank the way it is setup now. current inhabitants are: 1 angelfish 14 congo tetras 10 black neons 3 neons 3 yoyo's 2 bolivian rams a bn pleco, a king tiger pleco and a L333 pleco Looking for suggestions for a "center peice" fish or Pair that would live with the angel. Possibly another cichlid or a gourami pair? Any help would be great. Thanks

As those above, I have found that my "store bought" parents have died off rather quickly, but any surviving offspring continue to thrive. I have some that don't last a week from the store but the others are over a year now and going strong. I think the "diversity" theory is a good one. Try breeding guppies from different stores/towns and see if that helps(?) good luck

I would have to guess that your talking about a submersible type. Im pretty new but looking at old posts on all kinds of sights id say that Ebo Jager heaters are the best submersible type out there. Since they are a sealed unit, I dont think submersible heaters can be fixed.

I'm sorry Im not much help as I am relatively new to fishkeeping but it sounds like a bacterial bloom - probably because of the new tank cycling (?). Just go to google and search "white cloudy water, aquarium" or some such thing and youll find all sorts of info on bacterial blooms. Sorry I cant be much more help Good luck

1 L333 (3") 1 L2 (4") 1 longfinned bristlenose (2") 1 regular bristlenose(4") 12 ottos had a cherry shrimp tank but I just had to have some more fish so the angels got a snack.

Thanks guys!!, I think the fish are loving it, I couldn't clean the glass because one of the angel pairs was eyeing up the algae magnet. haha. Must be the weather. Fish are crazy!!

I just thought I'd say that I bought some Lamprologus Speciosus for a 20 gallon tank I was bored with and they have to be the most fun fish I have had so far. They completely ignore my presense and bicker among themselves constantly, nothing crazy just establishing territory. I love the way they dart around and constantly push the boundaries with their neighbors! haha. they are just tiny (maybe an inch) and have a big fish mentality, always displaying when anything (even snails) wanders too close. Just thought I would share this in case someone else thats new has a tank that they dont know what to do with. Shellies Rock
