  1. What species have you guys found in Alberta that worked? That did not work? I found some Hornwort in a lake in the Lethbridge area, and another type of plant that I have yet to identify. I am trying a piece of the hornwort in my 30 gallon but I am nervous about the other plants. How did you disinfect your locally-collected plants before placing them in the tank, if at all? I was told to use a bleach dip but I am nervous about it. What creepies do you guys know of in Alberta that would be harmful to our aquarium fish, if any? Do you think the fish would simply eat any hitchhiking crawlies? Should I be concerned about that?

  3. As the topic says: Is anyone breeding Celestial Pearl Danios (Galaxy Rasboras) in Alberta? I am in Lethbridge, southern Alberta. I really want to get my hands on some.
  4. I always use vinegar & water, no-scratch scrubby, and elbow grease. Works beautifully.
  5. Welcome, I feel your pain. It's getting bad for me over here, too. Can't stop dreaming about new tanks and new fish and new plants. You are in the right place....
  6. WOW... both of these stories are incredible! I have more and more admiration for Bettas the more I learn about them!
  7. Cool, congrats! If you want a guppy then I hope it is a guppy for you.
  8. Oooh, very nice. I love the colors overall. Those hoofed beasties aren't so pretty when they come through your windshield, let me tell ya, but they do look nice standing in a field, I admit.
  9. Welcome Keith! Sounds like you are having fun already. Enjoy!
  10. My new Dalmatian female dropped this morning.... I managed to get 9 out of the community tank into the fry tank where the Platys are. The week old Platys are the same size as the newborn Mollies! I know there are a few other Molly fry still in the community tank but I have to go to work now (running late as it is) so I will search again when I get home tonight. I saw 2 more, there are probably alot more than that even, but they were hiding way down in the plants and rocks and it's difficult to get at the without them shooting across the tank straight into an adult's mouth, LOL. I have my new Betta in there, too, and apparently that's not going to be a problem because there were at least 10 babies who made it into the hiding places. I am sooo happy! They are all brown but different shades so some will be lighter colored, I am sure. No idea who Daddy is because the Mommy just came home yesterday. She must have been happy with her new environment to drop her fry right away like that. I figured she would drop next week. They are SOOO awesome! *hugs them all*
  11. Nice pictures, I like your plants and fish, it all looks very nice and natural.
  12. Very nice job! I like the color scheme, too.
  13. Make sure you scrape off the old sealer with a sharp blade, clean it up, vacuum it out (it gets messy), and definitely use tape to line the corners and edging where you want to reseal, because it can be hard to keep straight if you don't tape it all. Use aquarium-safe silicone, something that does NOT have "mildew resistant" properties. I got my aquarium-safe silicone at Home Hardware for pretty cheap, it says "safe for aquariums" right on the tube.
