  1. 3 males and 1 female. With pups I always go with bare bottom as they don't move the sand around that much and you can get hot spots of ammonia. Adults move the sand around lots so not a big risk then. They are all eating really well so if all goes well the could go then.
  2. Sorry for the late reply as I had a very busy weekend. I'm not sure on the sexes yet as I don't pull them out of the tank until they are eating and stable. I will check in the next day or two.
  3. I usually like to make sure they are 6-8 weeks before getting rid of them. I only have the 4 at the moment as I sold the other 3 on Tuesday from the last batch. I have been cutting back on feed as in the last three years the litter have been anywhere from 8 to 13 pups from each female. By cutting back on the food I get smaller litters which is good for me as I'm so busy right now.
  4. I haven't sexed the last batch which were born Tuesday April 5th. I just sold the other two females and one male that were ready to go. I'm not sure if these guys would be ready by the 22nd/23rd as I like to see them start to eat pellets before I sell them off. I usually sell them for $100 each
  5. Hi, I regularly have motoro pups but I see you are in Saskatchewan so you probably want someone located in close to your area as I am in Edmonton, Alberta
  6. He out grew my 8 by 3 tank. Now he is in a 12 by 5.
  7. I got him from big Als in Edmonton. Last time they had them in they were $80 for a 6"
  8. I got him at a local LFS and he was about 12-14 inches at the time. They got another in about 6 months ago that was maybe 6" but I thought one was enough. lol I'm sure he would be fine but I have breeding rays in there that need to eat everyday and the little automatic feeder I had was not enough because he just sucks in the food hence the name "Hoover" I will try to get more picture with my better camera as soon as I can.
  9. Just wanted to share my Rip Saw with you all. "Hoover" is now 31" long and eating me out of house and home. I needed to buy a pond (giant) automatic fish feeder so I can keep up with him when away for the weekend. lol
  10. Hmm I thought I replied to this yesterday but now I don't see my post... Ok we'll in short. Sand is good but watch the depth with smaller rays. You can get ammonia build (hot spots) up in the sand that will burn your rays. This doesn't happen with larger rays as the move the sand around all the time. In my two grow out tanks I have no substrate but I have a couple of inches in my 450 gallon.
  11. The technical answer is yes. Right now I have a Leo with a retic. However the Leo won't be staying there long as the tank is to small for the Leo but fine for the retic and the leo is small right now. My question to you is what is the square footage of the bottom of your tank? Remember that a Leo will get much larger than a retic and therefore you will need quite a large tank. The gallon size it not as important as how much "floor" space there is. A normal 100 gallon tank is to small for a Leo because he/she will barely be able to turn around in a 18" wide tank. There are other considerations but lets start there.
  12. Size is absolutely the biggest key to being mature for females and that depends on what you are feeding. However males isn't as much about size as it is their claspers and their shape/form. Males have a distinct body change that signifies their maturity but females lack this. My big female has pups that are 4-5" in diameter and are 6-7" by the time thier are about 60 days old. So at 7.5" I think you have some time before your female is ready. Usually about 12" in diameter is the norm however I have heard of cases where the female has been as small as 10". You will know when your female is mature if you have a mature male because he will star biting the female's outer disc etc (given proper water conditions) which are signs of breeding.
  13. Variety is the 2nd best key to heathly rays. You would be better off to be feeding other foods as well (dew worms, hikiari massivore pellets, smelts, tilapia, etc). With a mono diet your rays will take a long time to become mature and they will never be as healthy as they could be.
  14. At least a year and a half but most likely two years depending on what you are feeding.
