  1. lol. too funny!! i happen to have a few empty tanks...just in case, you know, something happens to the first. i also have some 'extra' heaters and filters... we will see how the ONE tank idea goes...tho i DO also have a small saltwater tank at my sisters house. thanks for all of the hello's guys!
  2. hey all! after giving up my aquariums (over 1000gals of water at any given time between 6-30 tanks) for the last few years im back! i just couldn't give the hobby up! tho im really, really...really gonna try and keep it to one aquarium (well, one salt one one fresh) as i already have 20+ tarantulas and a few pythons... im kinda all over the place as far as animals go. i have (had) two rottweilers, i sadly just had to put my baby girl down 3 days ago but she lived a long and happy 11 years (which, im told, is pretty old for a rottweiler). ive had stingrays and bred all sorts of african and south american cichlids and even had some great luck breeding synodontis petricola (one of my all time favs!). i just had a wicked clutch of baby tarantulas H.Incei which im pretty thrilled aboutbecause they are a communal type. anyways, just wanted to say hi...Hi! Rolando
  3. ill get right on reading this stuff...thanks for the info...ill post and let ya know.
  4. rrrrrrrgh!!! when it rains it pours! my trigger tank has a bad case of ich! any ideas on getting rid of it?ive been told to use copper but i heard it might kill my live rock. would i be better off to quarentiene the rock and treat the big tank? does a uv sterilizer work? anyone with exp using a diatom filter? what has also been suggested is a 'freshwater dip'....whats the chances that would work? really need some advice please. one down......
  5. good to hear! i was feelin pretty crummy thinking i killed such a nice addition. guess i might have a few frags/heads for trade in a while.... ill try to figure out if its a mushroom or ricordea. thanks for the info!
  6. so i acquired a saltwater 29g biocube with live rock, three or four large fuzzy mushroom anemones, clownfish, and a whole lot of other bonuses...i transferred it all to my place with no problems except that one of the mushrooms that was attached to two rocks ripped in half. im curious if it has any chance of living or should i take it out and scrub it off before it start to rot in my tank. it still has some of its nice green color and some of its bubbles are still red...but i see some white 'insides' and im not sure it will survive. does anyone have any exp with this type of situation and any good advice. if i can save it id like to try, but if there is no chance then ill have to take it out before it creates a spike. thank you.
  7. oddly enough ive heard rays are a type of shark....
  8. hope those canister guys are right...
  9. i should mention that on the running 180gal salt i have a cascade1500 and a fluval fx5 and both seem to be handeling the load without a problem...so far. i also have an external power head that would probably push lots more if i were to get a larger intake hose... ive heard the same for the puffer, but the triggers apparently have the same interest in 'tasting' everything as well. when i got my live rock it was covered in little plants and colorful algae...now its just algae..lol. i was mostly just wondering if there was anything someone had found that worked well with these teeth type of fish that would add color...maybe just other, faster fish....
  10. ive kept three motoros and a large two foot fire eel and a two foot tire track eel together without problemsin my 180gal...actually the only problem i found with the eels is that they are VERY good at finding open spaces and even willing to push anything they think they can open. guess he wanted to find out if the water was better on the other side of the glass...
  11. hey all. i'm fairly new to saltwater keeping but have lots of exp with freshwater. ive had my 180gal salt tank running for over a month now and no problems thus far. i decided to try and fast track the cycling process by adding over half a large bottle of 'Nutrafin Cycle' and a small bottle of "Weiss Bacter Boost'. both say it will help cycle your tank but the "Weiss' product says it can do it in two days! here we are a month later with approx 65lbs of live rock,40lbs of live sand, 60lbs of live crushed coral and shells. and a tank full of triggers and a few damsels.....all eating healthy and with water in their proper parameters. im looking to add some more color to my tank but realize triggers eat almost anything. any ideas as to what to add? any corals anemones or other things that could co exist with the triggers would be appreciated. at the moment i have a clown trigger, humu humu (picasso), blackbelly, a small clown lookalike with small spikes over his body (id love to know the name of this guy), a rectangle or triangle trigger, an undulate (most aggressive), a dog faced puffer and two yellow tail damsels and two normal blue damsels. i wouldn"t usually add so many fish in such a short period of time but it seems some of my roommates also had their eyes on fish too. when i said i was gonna put triggers into the tank they went out trigger shopping. they are here now and the only one is really not sure of is the undulate....otherwise everything seems to be fine. i also have a 29gal nano cube that im using as my coral/anemone tank. with two black clownfish and a flame angel. they all get along well and have grown up together. soon enough ill be looking to turn my top 180gal tank into a reef type tank. can i use my normal canister filters (two rena xp4) and some powerheads. would that be sufficient filtration? i know flow is a big factor in reef keeping so i might need some pointers if there are any. thank you.

    hey all

wanted to say hi. ive been keeping fish for seven years now...soo addictive...just moved into a new place so i had to take down my main tanks (320 gal, two stacked 180 gal, some 90gals, two 50 gals, and a bunch of tens and twentys for breeding). i was into breeding synodontis petricola, angelicus, and flevulentatus. also into african cichlids like ruby reds, red shoulder, and albino peacocks. actually id breed anything that paired up. luckely my new roomies had no problem with me resetting up the two 180gals as they look pretty sweet. even went saltwater on the bottom and fresh on the top. but i think im looking to sell my freshwater stuff and keep it all saltwater...guess well see how that goes. ciao. Rolando
