  1. I have both the Red Sea and Nutrafin systems and hate buying the refills so I am looking for your recipes for refilling these. Obviously the Nutrafin is still the Sugar the the first mark and it looks like about 1/4 tsp of good quality yeast (brand suggestions?) and what is the other packet? Looks like Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). The Red Sea I will be setting up for the first time tonight. I am not into building the systems on my own I am lazy but hate paying for the refills. Tanks everyone
  2. Welcome!! I am an islander - although a fish out of water for the last 8 years. I just want to say - be tank-ful for your soft water. I could grow any aquatic plants I wanted on the island - here is a bit more difficult. My family by choice is still on the island and they were the ones I learned the majority of my aquatic knowledge. Lots of people the learn from there but always happy to have you here too!!
  3. I visited the LFS again today - bad thing when I have days off for kids. Anyhow - they got some of the largest most gorgeous Sailfin Mollies in. If you have any or are looking - These are amazing. I almost got some even though my tanks are full Happy shopping
  4. Stopped in to Riverfront today and they have half a dozen or so Giant Plakat Betta's. Asking $11.99. They look really nice. I only say males but may have missed them.
  5. LOL - Those darn "RARE" livebearers I think between us we could repopulate the wild. PS - No trying to send Fry home with Ceara
  6. TDawg - I did try for all of the Cory's but know what I can get some of the varieties for privately so didn't want to break the bank on them. I still am looking for Cory's though. Love the little guys. Wingin' It - I am still happy with the boys they are great color and I have some girls that have similar coloring.
  7. It was a great auction a first for me but I did manage to leave with the last Tiger Lotus a gorgeous specimen - Thank-you to the previous owner for this one. A few other plants - thank-you Shane. a few half-moon bettas (look like super deltas-happy either way) Thank-you Wingin' it. Looking forward to the fall auction.
  8. I see those too - hum what the heck then. I don't want to scrap it off and have it be feeder either. You can be paid in babies or I can pay with child labour - LOL I am joking everyone. My daughter actually dose love helping and exercising Maddie.
  9. So I hired 5 Asssassin snails from Fidhclubgirl to clean house in my 10g planted. They have done an awesome job as evident by the carnage on the gravel. However I have noticed my CO2 bubble ladder hasn't been working properly - I look this morning and low and behold there is a large egg sac in the very corner where my bubbles start their spiral. My plants will have to suffer a bit since my CO2 will not be difussed well but its in the interest of babies. And YES AM I will make good on my promise to shipp ALL of them back. I have no food sources for hungry babies.
  10. Ceara will be thrilled to hear her Maddie cat saved a fish!!! Go Mad's - Maybe you deserve a can of wet cat food.
  11. This is site I know of you can order them HERE
  12. Once I get my tanks aquascaped it will be you spotting for me. PS - My Banana Plant is going crazy!! 2 new leaves in 6 days and 2 new root trailers.
  13. LOL - I hate the mulm in the face you only do that once - well with each type of equipment anyways. Good luck with the filters I'm sure they will be very happy with the thorough cleaning.
  14. LOL - remember I am still feeding 5 of your Assassins when they are full and breeding I will ship them back. I can't sustain any clutches in my tanks
  15. My tanks are heavily planted but not overstacked yet - not unless Ceara and AM have any say. I scrub mine out about every 6-8 weeks from the build ups. I use a baby bottle nipple brush to really scrub the impeller shaft out, a pipe snake for the intake and then have a fishy dish brush for the rest of the housing. Works like a charm everytime. The snail babies get a bit clogged on the sponge but a very quick rinse to preserve my bacteria seems to work. I use refillable media bags and it works great and I feel like I am saving money and probably am. My 1 filter is older than both my kids put together and have never replaced a single part. I may try the pam trick but not sure mine need it.
  16. I am looking at getting some of these cute little guys but can't seem to get any solid info on their most suitable environment. It seems to be split on freshwater and brackish. Any help would be appreciated!!
  17. LOL - The Mustard Banana Babies should be cute!!
  18. CONGRATS!!!! You and Maddie must be so proud! Hey, You and your family were here when it happened!! That may be but the wigglers still had to hatch. Maybe we need to bring Maddie's favorite person over more often the bettas seem to like having her aroudn too.
  19. CONGRATS!!!! You and Maddie must be so proud!

How do I help a very egg bound zebra danio? I have no others left. I had my other 5 die of old age. If I can't help her is there anyone out there that has a school in a quiet tank that she can get "help" Sadly within an hour of posting this she passed - wish I had known sooner
