  1. Was able to stop it without needing to take any drastic measures! yeay.
  2. Got it in the mail yesterday, curious if anyone would like me to post a bit of an early review so others can see if they are interested in it. For those who don't know, www.fishneedit.com sells 75, 150 and 250 Watt metal halide lamps/ballasts for under 200.
  3. parboil some cucumber, stick it in the tank, let it sit there for 24 hrs and pull it out at night when snails swarm it. repeat until numbers dwindle. or you can always manually remove them or crush them.
  4. Before I do a complete blackout i'd like to see if i can limit it's growth or stop it before it gets serious. Going to do a big WC (excess phosphates?), test for nitrates (probably close to 0 ppm), increase o2. If all else fails, I am house sitting for someone next week so it would be an ok time to do a blackout.
  5. I Think I am going to try jacking up the amount of Oxygen available and aim my powerhead directly at the patch that's growing, and spot treat with H202 (hydrogen peroxide). Right now the amount is verrryyy limited and only a faint film is evident on my sand. Hopefully if I hit it hard and fast it will disappear.
  6. What about my other plants though? And is it true bga can bloom with lack of nitrates? I see all sorts of conflicting info on the net
  7. BGA problems! possibly due to lack of nitrates. Ordered some ferts online but wont get them till next week. Anyone want to provide a source of nitrate if they would also think that is the likely cause? Plenty of current in my tank, no direct sunlight.
  8. Stopped by today they said they cant fill it!
  9. There used to be a place in west edmonton mall that did it, but from what I can tell it's no longer in existence
  10. Fill a paintball CO2 canister? Aside from paintball places in Edmonton. I can make the trip to a paintball place once and a while but if a more local place could do it that would be dandy!
  11. When buying livestock, do you consider whether or not they are wild caught or tank raised? Endangered or Threatened status? For example, the white cloud mountain minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) is said to be extinct (http://www.springerlink.com/content/512721778718n18k/) in it's native range, but are tank bred for the aquarium industry. Or what about reef dwelling fish that are captured in the name of the aquarium trade, potentially upsetting some balance? For example, algivorous fish that are needed to control algae in order for corals to survive. Basically, does it matter to you if a fish is threatened or endangered and does that affect your livestock choices? Why or why not? Share your thoughts!
