  1. Yeah it's like hair under water. I haven't even tried picking it off yet. Already done some water changes. I'll remove the fake plants and get it off.
  2. I have a small 10 Gallon thats in my bedroom. Recently it has started to grow this odd grey hair like algae. I assume some sort of hair algae, but would like some confirmation.
  3. +1 You can also try 6 line wrasse. I have two that gobble bristles like crazy
  4. Use a razorblade to take the paint off (very, very easy), and use Krylon fusion paint.. If you want blue they have blue. You have a nice project going on there, but if it were me.... that background would drive me insane the way it looks. Might as well spend the 30 minutes it would take to strip that paint and do it right before the tank is set up and in its final place. Is that electrical conduit your using instead of PVC? If so, its not food grade, and will not work long run in an aquarium. I would also turn that ball valve on your overflow away from the tank for ease of access. Nice start to a nice project! Keep on truckin... but remember... patience is key. Take it slow.
  5. Good actinics are the only way to get good glow out of any corals. You can also try good blue LED's to make colors pop. Any corals with neon tips will glow nicely. I have an awesome glow with frog spawn, hammer coral, torch coral, candy canes, and bright colored zoas/zoos. Pretty much anything with a neon glow in your LFS will be good under the right light.
  6. That is pretty normal in my expreience (5 salt tanks). I use a surface skimmer attachment on my filter that works great. I would try that.
  7. I also have a sweet Jardini for sale you should check out for cheap too!!
  8. So i'm building a 5.5 Gallon Pico Reef system from the ground up, and I'm now at the canopy/lighting stage. I'm looking for higher powered actinic screw in bulbs, no longer than 6". Anyone know where I can get true actinic bulbs? I have 2 10,000K day bulbs already, and thus far, can only find the coralife 50/50 bulbs, which don't give me the actinic glow that I was looking for. Anyone seen some actinic screw ins around Calgary? Thanks Mike
  9. haha thanks for the tip!! This will be exciting...lol
  10. I am making an overflow and chambers in a Pico Reef tank i'm building out of acrylic. I hear everyone on forums talking about "Weld-on # 4" as their acrylic cement, and that its the best/safest one to use. I can't find it at any normal store like Home Deopt or Rona. Anyone know where to get this stuff in Calgary?
  11. Nice Work! I like seeing other people who give their bettas glorious homes insted of the confines of a tiny bowl with no flow. Well done.
  12. I'm in desperate need of a couple of aquaclear 110 parts. Does anyone know a store that would sell Motors or lids in or around Calgary? Any help is appreciated, as I don't have the time to wait for something to be shipped here off the internet. Thanks Mike
  13. Hey! I have lots of saltwater in my house, and I only use RO water. I always have perfect perams. Your discus will appreciate the RO water! I recommend this company. www.purelyh2o.com The shipping was awesome, fast, and the customer service was really good. I bought my system from them, they are extremely cheap, and they have a tonne of different accessories to get along with the RO\DI systems. I purchsed the 4 stage RO system with the dual DI unit add on, the TDS meter add on, the auto shutoff/float kit, and the pressure guage kit. I hooked all of mine up to a large food grade rubbermaid with a heater, airstone, powerhead, and a submersable pump connected to 50 ft of hose in there for storage of the water. I also have a rig that re-uses the waste water from the unit to use as my washing machine water! Easy setup. I recommend RO water any day. Let me know if you have any other questions. I can walk you thtough any install too.
  14. Yes, I plan on keeping the back clean of coraline for sure. Don't like the look of it on glass.. Just rocks!
  15. Hey all! I need some help. I've been toying on which background to use on my 50 Gallon Reef tank. This picture is crappy cell phone pic, and the back glass has since been cleared of any algae. Help me by voting! Thanks FishyFishy!
