  1. If possible move the cichlid to another tank and feed him about two to three times a day. Feed him protein based food in the morning and some spirulina flake or pellet in the evening. If he still skinny and theres no change i would have to say he has a parasite. Look for a parasite medicacation that he fish will can eat. Try to get the fish more food and see how that goes for now good luck and i hope everything goes allright. i wouldnt feed any protien based foods. I would just stick to veggie based food until he eats again. I would guess this to be a parasite and would reccomend medicated food and a quarantine in a 10 gallon if you have it As i said feed it protein in the morning so it has the hole day to be digested. Any hagen protein based food is not that good but nls or xtream food is perfect. If its a mbuna feed less protein because they can get bloat real easy with high protein based foods. It sounds like you fish is just not get as much food as the other guys and just needs to be fatted up.

  7. hello all my jewel cichlid has been acting odd for the last month now i noticed he was losing weight but still eating. i put him in a seperate tank and increased feeding but he is still losing weight. he is now losing color, scratching up against rocks, moving his head side to side and breathing hard. 8. Hello there thx for reading. I have a 72 gallon wth cichlids inside. They are all about 2 to 3 inchs long and i have been having a hard time get fish the same size. I picked up a 20 gallon tank so i could grow a few cichlids to about two inchs. I will be soon putting in two cobalt zebras and one bumble bee cichlid. What could i do to increase there growth and get them a inch bigger. There all about 1 inch now. How long will it take me to grow them a inch and could i add some more cichlids to there tank without slow there growth down to much. I was think of adding mabey three more with them. I am currently feeding them Xtream Cichlid food. 9. My Johanni female has been breeding for two months now with no problems. She just stoped eat a few days ago. I am pretty sure she is holding. Nothing to unusual but she has just started stay at one corner at the very top of the tank. She looks as if she is gasping for air and swiming odd up at the surface in the corner. Last time she was holding she hide behind a plant and barley moved. Does anyone know what might be wrong with her. 10. Hello all thx for reading. I have a African Cichlid tank full of mbunas. What types of plants could i put in that they will leave alone and not destroy? 11. Hi my name is Kyle and I have been in the hobby for about 6 years now. I started small with community tropical fish like danios, tetras, and guppies. I used to breed guppies for about 2 years and had lots of sucess! I got bored of small community tanks and started giving up the hobby. Luckily I came across a 72 gallon bowfront tank for a great price and bought it. I knew I wanted colorful and more difficult fish to keep. And thats when I found out about african cichlids and have been hooked ever since. I have kept mostly mbunas and haps in my tank and try to get more rarer breeds of africans like peacocks. I would say I am not a master at africans cichlids but not any where near a begginer. I have made a few mistakes like buying haps not knowing how large they get and they will not be in my tank much longer. I have a breeding pair of either Johanni or Maingano and I am hoping my OB peacock breeds too. I am looking for peacocks and rare breeds of mbunas to add to my tank. I currently have these fish in my tank: 2 OB Peacock Male and Female 2 Johanni or Maingano Male and female 1 Red Zebra 1 Albino Zebra 1 Acei 1 electric yellow lab 1 Blue Dolphin 1 Venustus 1 Livingstonii 1 Jewel I currently have 4 active tanks in my house out of 5. I have a five gallon for emerginces. Two 10 gallons one with cichlid fry and the other with two green spotted puffers. Also a 20 gallon where i grow out fish to keep to go in the 72 gallon or to sell. And then my favorite my African Cichlid 72 gallon tank. So I have some work to do getting rid of fish and finding some rare breeds. If anyone would like to make a deal drop a line THX. Have a Great Day and good luck with your tanks!!!!! Here are some pics of my fish. http://s847.photobuc.../AC-THUNDER-DC/
  12. I like to let the mom hold her fry for about three weeks or untell her mouth looks like it is about to explode. Then i like to put her in a different take about a 10 gallon and when she feels confortable she will realese them to free swim. Make sure you either use a spunge filter or or get some panty hose lol and put it on your hang on filter to protect the fry. Now i am not a fan of stripping her fry. I find it gives her lots of stress and takes away her chances to take care of her fry. Now depending on your female you can either leave her in the tank with her fry. Or you can put her in a saprate take if she is eating her fry. Keep her in a different tank for about a week or two so she can gain some weight back. If she keeps eating her fry you may want to think about stripping her of her fry. Then put her in her orginal tank. But make sure you move everything around so she does not get attacked by the other fish. So good luck with your fry and i hope this helps you out.
