  1. they are nipping each other
  2. geophagus are always active and sift through the sand constantly, quite nice to watch
  3. Just by changing the water and feeding blood worms I have had severums and blood parrots lay eggs....they never hatched
  4. I have 5 geophagus proximus approx 3-4" long.Currently I feed them about 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon of Omega One Super Color Cichlid sinking pellets twice a day. They easily gobble up this amount in under a minute. They are super healthy looking so I'm afraid to change anything. 2nd they seem to be more and more aggressive toward each other, nipping tails and jousting. They don't want to be too close yet they all stick together? 3rd at what size will they pair up and do they mate for life?
  5. feed them more then usual blood worms etc and raise the temp a bit to simulate "spring"??? It seems that fresh/clean water stimulates them.I have had this happen many times.I also noticed if we are gone a lot the fish will lay eggs while we are gone, maybe they are stressed with more movement around them when were home? I even seen this behavior when I rearrange the tank.I've watched koi and goldfish in an outside pond start to mate after/during a big rain. Its definately linked to the fresh/clean water. I plan on doing a basement tank with a constant drip and over flow to promote this behavior.I have watched youtube vids on this set up and you never need to do water changes again.
  6. i also have the proximus,3-4", I think I only have 1 female and lost one 3 weeks ago during a water change with well water.I have 5 left and they are nipping each others tails,1 minute they are huddled together and the next they are jousting.I only have a pleco in with them.I have 5 remaining
  7. I've been reading good and bad results, anyone use salt with them?
  8. Looking for sand that won't affect ph levels ect
  9. So what heater is recommended? 100gal cichlids
  10. Which heater is best and which line does it go on?
  11. the well water is through a chlorine injection then charcoal filter"whole house" system. This system has done nothing to remove a slight color in our water, currently i'm looking at an "ACLARUS" Ozone injection system to replace it,they say the ozone is safe?
  12. A few months ago I watched a youtube vid,a guy set up a slow drip with over flow on his basement tank.Just so happens I have a perfect spot for this against my utilty room downstairs, the only thing i have to figure out is how to add PRIME to my well water as it enters every once in awhile. A rescent water change killed my 5yr old severums so i'm paranoid.
  13. geophagus proximus,I just think they are very interesting to watch as they never stop sifting through the sand.Never really see agression and develope into beautiful long thread fins with nice coloring. This is pretty well all geophagus but I would love some thoricthys elliot!
