  1. Nice and yes I agree shells are crazy prices, kills me to watch mine bury the shells and spawn in the rock piles.LOL
  2. OK back on topic of the auction Sunday how did people do?I picked up a red tiger lotus at very good $ at the beginning when most weren't paying attention, and a trio of M.boesemani Lake Aytinjo. Like to say thanks Calgary Aquarium Society always enjoy myself at these.
  3. Hopefully these are in the breeders cull tank. They are deformed version of a beautiful fish that have no business being offered for sale. Just my 2ยข ya I have to agree +1
  4. Next one should be mid-march, check it out lots of quality live stock & plants.
  5. Socialist utopia has only just begun hold on you haven't seen every thing thats in store for us yet.
  6. I've had good luck with a Hydor hooked up to the out flow on mine.I used small automotive hose claps to secure the hoses, cheap insurance against leaks.
  7. Rams will be just fine in Calgary tap I worried about the same before I picked some up.Problem is finding quality stock they are a short lived species to begin with try to get quality stock from local members or trusted source.I see your in Calgary and Fairdeal has some wild caught might be your best bet. Enjoy they are a great little fish lots of personality some aggression they are chiclids but nothing more than some minor chasing all will be fine in a planted tank with hiding spots.
  8. Lee Valley 6500K 2 for $25
  9. Every six months all of my intakes are covered with foam pre-filters they get rinsed out under hot tap water every week during water changes. All canisters are filled with nothing but bio-media.
  10. Nitrites can be tricky when I fishless-cycled I used seeded media as well. When I dosed ammonia then did my tests 24hrs. later nitrites always showed zero so did ammonia, but I did show nitrates.Try testing for nitrites a few hours after dosing ammonia regardless you should be able to start stocking slowly.
  11. Java Fern works crazy glue it to the rock work.
  12. With my very limited experience breeding fish I have had the best luck using Sera-Micron as the 1st food for rainbow fry I like it because of its convenience and I can see if the fry are eating because they end up with a green belly, but it has proved lacking in the growth department,so I begin to introduce live food as soon as possible three days is my rule.Miro-worms in small amounts the fry show interest but usually aren't able to eat them until about the fifth day when they begin to pick off the smallest worms. At this point growth takes off and I can start adding BBS to the feeding schedule once fry start in on the miro-worms & BBS I stop the Sera-Micron and switch to NLS grow out that I grind up using a mortar & pestle. I use a bare bottom tank, for clean up crew its a combination of pond & MTS snails.WC are every two days 25% in the 1st two weeks then 50% from there on. Its all been experimentation so far but I've learned live foods which may not be convenient are your best friend with fry and WC lots of WC. I would like to try Cyclop Eeze & Golden Pearls one of these days, blackworms I have so I might grind up some for s***s & giggles see how they like it.
  13. I'm no expert but look up Columnaris hope all goes well.
  14. Agree this place is a DIY er's paradise they had a interesting LED display set up just wish I had more time to explore.
  15. Might have been mentioned on here before but here it goes Lee Valley carries the Sunblaster T5HO 54w lamps 6400K for $9.95. I grabbed four today saving myself a bunch of cash.
