  1. I've posted this in the buy and sell section as well but I'm a bit desperate to see my cichlids to a new home so here it is again... Came home this afternoon to find that my 75gal cichlid tank has sprung a leak. Sadly its somewhere along the bottom of the tank. I've drained it and can't see any cracks, so a seam must have let go. While draining the tank I've decided to take a break from the hobby for a while so I have several items to sell.. First off...and most importantly the fish. They're in a temporary 30gal tank until they can find a new home. I'd like them gone as quickly as possible before they get sick as I don't have the hardware to maintain this tank. Up for grabs... 1 male Red Severum (about 6"), 1 Female Red Sevrum (about 4.5") 1 female Yellow Lab (about 3") 1 male Electric Blue Peacock (about 4.5"), 1 female Electric Blue Peacock (about 3") 1 male(?) Kapuma (about 4") that is blue with a yellow dorsal 2 orange unknown (about 1" each) 2 blue unknown (about 1" each) 1 mbuna (?) (about .5") 1 pleco (about 12-14") 2 Tropheus (about 4" each) 1 Female Strawberry Peacock (about 6") These fish have either come from Francos or Pisces and are all in very healthy condition. $300 obo. As these fish are in excellent health I would like to see them go all at once to take any further stress off of them. In a separate tank I also have a couple of guppies and tetras. 10gal tank and fish for $20 I also realize this isn't the place for the rest but I'll post it here anyway since I'm a bit desperate.... Hardware... Leaking 75gal tank 4' in length, 18" tall, 18" wide. The leak is small but I don't have the time to source it and fix it. At worst it is an excellent reptile tank. Comes with black sand. $30 30gal tank. Good condition. No leaks. Currently housing cichlids. I'll throw in four filters of various sizes. $50 10gal tank. $20 with fish. 4' Coral Life lighting fixture. Works excellent. $180 3' Coral Life with day/night capability $120 (one bulb burnt out) Assortment of plastic plants, logs, and rocks in a tote. $40 I do have pictures of everything that I can email or text. Also a video of the fish if you want to see it. Total adds up to just over $700..if you take it all I'll do it for $600.
  2. For my boy. Something for him to look at when he wakes up in the morning and maybe let mommy and daddy sleep in a bit..lol. Anyway I'm planning to rescue a betta from a petstore. I hate seeing them in those tiny little cups stacked on shelves. So one lucky dude is going to move into a 30gal tank. I'm also interested in having a couple of females for him as well and I'm wondering if anyone has any females for sale in the Calgary area? The only time I've seen them in Calgary was at Riverfront and I was surprised at how colourful they are. Also does it matter what variety the male is for him to be interested in the females? I do plan on having other fish in the tank. Perhaps a small school of cardinal tetras? Maybe German Rams? A couple of corys?
  3. I've got a female Red Jewel who over the last couple of days has lost all her colour and has gotten very fat. She looks very much like a fat little goldfish. Nearly white but all her fins are still red and she hasn't lost her spots. She's swimming normally and isn't hiding like a sick fish probably would, but not eating as far as I can tell. Any thoughts on what is up? And any course of treatment I should take?
  4. Intense indeed. As a plumber and from a purely maintenance point of view, you really don't want us coming in and doing any kind of work on that sink...lol. I think if someone were to actually do this they're not going to be too worried about actually using that kitchen for its intended purpose lol. Cool idea though. I'd love to have a basement wall tank...alongside my glass walled garage full of super cars
  5. Thanks...would tetras be a good option? I'm thinking along the lines of Rummy Nose and Cardinals. My little guy is a year and half so I think something bright and active.
  6. I'm thinking of starting up a 30gal tank in my boy's room so he can start to get a feel for the hobby from an early age. I'd like to do something with a Betta, mostly because everytime I walk into a pet store I feel sorry for them, but I'm not sure what he'll mix well with. Any suggestions?
  7. I'm considering adding in a couple of Dempseys into my set up. The tank is big enough to house them but I'm wondering if they'll mingle well with my current stock. I've got a Strawberry Peacock (male and female), Electric Blue Peacock (male and two females), three yellow labs, Sevrum (male and female), two red Jewels, and a single Kapuma. I'm thinking everyone would play well together but those JDs aren't cheap so I don't want to spend the money and find out they'll turn the tank upside down.
  8. Looks great. Love how you can sit right beside it and watch the tank.
  9. I was wondering if anyone else uses a powerhead to create a bit more circulation around the tank? Is it a good idea with cichlids? I've used them when I had a salt tank to help out the corals and what not, but not with a cichlid tank. I've got a 70gal setup with a few logs and what not for them to swim in and out of. But I've noticed a bit of debris is gathering in a few spots where the filter isn't able to circulate as well. I was thinking of installing a small powerhead to just rid the tank of any dead spots for circulation.
  10. Another Airdrie member...welcome
  11. Yes vivarium...that's the word I was trying to think of last night..lol. Thanks. I'll have to do some research as to how to set one up properly. Killifish are cool and I've had them before so that would be an neat option. It would also be neat to have some crabs but not sure how they'd mix with a newt.
  12. But the pond section seemed as good as any. I was thinking of doing something a little different for my next tank. I've had fresh water (currently running a 70gal Cichlid tank) and I've had salt water tanks, so I thought I'd try a small terrarium style tank for a change. I have a 30gal tank that I was thinking of putting some small fish, perhaps guppies or something along that nature, and newts. I had them once when I was a kid and they were cool but I didn't have a proper set up for them. So I thought I'd try them again so I'm wondering if anyone is raising any that could pass along some tips. Even just where to get them in Calgary would be helpful.
  13. Maybe I'll have a rethink I'm a ways off putting it together anyway so plenty of time to come up with a cool plan. Perhaps I'll use my 10gal as a shrimp tank for my little boy when he's a bit older and make a small community tank with the 30gal.
  14. LOL....well if I have a strong enough population maybe I can trim back on food for the cichlids in my big tank.
