  1. Well after a few days back in the tank together everyone seems to be getting along just fine! I just noticed that the German Rams have paired up and one of my Anubias leaves are covered in eggs Things are looking up
  2. I'll take some pics this weekend and send your way.
  3. Ok, i ordered a couple boxes (15 pieces, he said he would throw in some freebies). If it takes 6 weeks that perfect timing, basement renos start mid January be done by end of January and I can then begin the rebuild in a fresh basement. As most of these pieces are long branches I'm still looking for ground cover, foreground accent pieces that will be suitable for Moss, Riccia and Anubias to be attached to. Once I've gone through the pieces and decided what items i wont be using ill be sure to spread the love and post the remaining pieces for Sale/Trade.
  4. Thank you! I took the bolivians out of the main tank for the day and fed them, once they were free swimming fins out i put them back in the main tank and shut off the lights for the night. This morning they are looking pretty good ill keep an eye on them. Are South American Cichlids like Africans where you can lower the stress on each fish by increasing the number cichlids in the tank? I would love to add some Apistogramma's to the tank if its advisable.

  6. 120g, 6' long. I think I have 2 male and 2 female German Rams, can't sex the Bolivians right now.
  7. How long did delivery take? I'm thinking about ordering a couple boxes full of pieces, using what I need then selling\trading off the remaining pieces.
  8. Spoke with the guy from manzanita-driftwood yesterday. Currently he has a special on, buy 2 get third piece free, pieces range from about $15 - $40 (for 1-4 foot pieces, he has other pieces worth quite a bit more). Shipping is $40 a box and he can fit about 8 pieces into a box. Doesn't seem so bad....
  9. The Bolivian Rams were the latest entry into the tank, however i took out all the fish and plants and did quite a bit of work on the tank and reintroduced all the fish back into the tank at the same time. That was over a week ago. ALL of the German Rams colors are quite bright fins spread out, 1 of the bolivian rams has some nice colors and doesnt seem to back down from the germans. The other 3 are in hiding, woke up this morning and found one floating. Did water parameter checks this morning: ph 7.6 gh 12 kh 6 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 5ppm
  10. Awesome thanks! http://www.manzanita-driftwood.com/ - Came across this site while trolling for driftwood, prices don't seem that bad compared to LFS prices. Shipping will probably break the bank though...
  11. http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/driftwood/41945-driftwood-notes.html Does this cover off most of the points one should consider when looking at getting their own driftwood from lakes or streams??
  12. I have 4 German Rams and 5 Bolivian Rams and have recently noticed that the bolivians are getting chased all over the tank by the germans, one of the bolivian rams has been hiding up in the top corner of the tank by the return lines and he isn't looking too good. There are plenty of natural hiding places, plants & rock structures, but they dont seem to hide in the spaces provided. Any suggestions on what i can do to help reduce the stress on the bolivian rams would be greatly appreciated!
  13. Thank you that would be awesome! Is it worth looking for driftwood on the banks of the river at this time of year or is it best to wait for spring? I want to start accumulating the wood now so i can get the rebuild going mid-end of January Patience definitely not a virtue! However i don't want to spend big $$$ at Pisces to get the scape that I'm trying to go for
  14. I am stating to plan out my 230G rebuild and am wondering where i can find very large pieces of driftwood, 2-3 feet long about a foot wide and preferably with branches. Looking online i haven't been able to find a suitable supplier with what i am imagining in my head and I've read online its possible to find your own and make it aquarium safe (takes quite a bit of time to accomplish this though). Wondering if any one out there has retailer suggestions or has gathered their own wood for aquarium purposes. Thanks!
  15. Prior to moving to this tank I had tons of ramshorns but they have all but dissapeared in the last couple weeks. If I get an abundance I'll let you know! Since adding the gravel cap my socks aren't clogging nearly as often, just did a WC and cleaned out the sump and the silt buildup is nearly non existent The whole purigen reactor experiment was a lot more work than I had intended it to be, and most definitely not required for this tank! I had the time and resources to play around and decided this was as good a time as any to give it a shot. From what I've read, mostly on reef or discus forums, the purigen being fluidized ensures that all the purigen is coming into contact with the water so it can do its job effectively. The problem I'm having is getting enough pressure into the canister to keep it all suspended without the purigen sticking to the filter. I plumbed the setup so it could be removed and moved to another system one day, when I decide to go down the discus path. At that point in time I'll worry about setting it up with its own pump and tweaking the system to keep the purigen suspended, at this point in time it's not worth the additional hassle on this system lol.
  16. Well lots has happened in a week since i last posted but i was able to finally solve the sock clogging and my cloudy tank issues. I was messing around with my purigen reactor trying to get the purigen to stay fluidized, ended up plumbing the reactor inline with the return line to the tank and ended up dumping 250ml of purigen into my tank! In a panicked state i then attempted to vac the purigen out and created a mess (purigen being very light doesn't really vac up but i sure did get lots of dirt in the bucket). I decided that the purigen rolling around the substrate bugged me enough to completely rip apart the tank. I pulled out all the fish and plants, drained the tank, mixed the substrate and hid all the purigen, re-added the plants, added a gravel cap, filled it back up and put the fish back in. With the cap in place the tank cleared in 24 hours and my filter socks have remained relatively clean. During this process i re-did the plumbing as well and moved the purigen reactor adding unions and ball valves allowing me to mess with the system a little easier. This is still a work in progress, as im still having issues keeping the purigen fluidized in the canister, ill post pics once i have a solution that im happy with sharing
  17. Thank you! Yes if anyone needs MTS let me know, I've got enough to share. One issue in having with the tank is the filter socks in the sump get clogged very easily, within a day they are very dirty and within 2-3 they aren't letting enough water through so that section starts to overflow. Any thoughts on how to handle this?
  18. OK got some more plants and stocked up with some fish, took a couple days to clear up the tank after planting everything so heres some new pics finally Huge thank you to cjerrom and ckmullin who have been very helpful in stocking up the tank and providing some fantastic advice for moving forward.
