  1. Thanks, Brenda. I've seen it in some guppy fry before but this happened suddenly. Maybe it's just reoccurring now that he's getting older. Oh well, I gave him a nice little quarantine home to rest for now.
  2. Sorry, moved this to emergencies. Please delete.
  3. Hey everyone, my fish need help! I can't figure out what they've got but something is very wrong. I've got 6 guppies in a 20 gallon right now, I'd noticed my adult male was starting to get a little thin so I've been keeping an eye on him. Today when I got home from work and was cleaning the tank I saw him almost listless sitting on the driftwood. He looks emaciated but has a huge apatite, his spine looks curved in an S from above. I don't know what it is but I just saw one of my females looks a little bit strange too, not thinning at all yet though. I do weekly water changes, I feed them a small amount twice a day. They get about 12hrs of light and 12hrs of darkness. All the levels are testing within range... I took the male out and put him in quarantine, I'm thinking about doing the same with the other female now too. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks! Edit: Is this Rickets? I try to feed them all high quality so they shouldn't be vitamin deficient...
  4. The closest symptoms I can find is Rickets but I'm very careful with feeding high quality foods so there Shouldn't be a vitamin deficiency...

  6. I'd love to get Veil Tail Oscars (or at least one) but I've read they might take some chunks out of Plecos. Seems it's a 50/50 chance. Do you suppose that since he's large and I'd bring in a juvenile oscar after he's already established they might be okay?
  7. Hey there, So, I've got a lovely 8" Sailfin in my 90 gallon but right now I've got Angels, Black Neons and Danios with him. I'm looking to swap them out for one or two large fish (I'm talking 10-12" large but no bigger than that). However, my main concern is making sure he doesn't become someone's fin-picking pass time. Does anyone have suggestions on what might do well with him? I'm going plant-less with only wood and rocks in the tank and there's multiple filters with about 130 gallon coverage. I'm doing weekly 15% water changes too so I don't think a messy fish would be a problem either.
  8. He seems to be doing a bit better today but I'm going to let them know what happened so if he dies there's some history. I debated buying him still but he seemed alright when I looked at him- just a little tilted... Also, it may be too soon to tell really but I think I picked a good pair. Lucky, much? They're very peaceful with each other and swim everywhere together. No fighting at feeding time either.
  9. Howdy, So, after some research and asking around I bought two Angelfish. I got them from a family owned pet store, very healthy looking and well taken care of. I asked about the water parameters they were raised in and figured it would be safe enough to try out since they're the same as my own (despite it being a little higher ph than they should have). Here's where my issue comes in. One jumped out of the bag and landed in a sink as he was trying to close it up. He's swimming slightly tilted over while the other is perfectly straight and has a bit of pink/purple on his side. I'm just not sure if this is typical; a temporary trauma, swim bladder issues, something fatal? Or is it totally normal behavior and I'm just worrying over nothing? Haha! Thanks!
  10. I took the shrimp advice and moved all of my shrimp from my 29 to the new 20. Also took the opportunity to do a real good clean and rearrange on the 29. Still going the plant route for the 20 eventually. Turns out the shrimp are very happy about their new home- eggs, eggs everywhere.
  11. Two of my tanks in their "baby steps" phases. A 29 gallon with various plants, natural pebbles, slate and petrified wood. And a 20 gallon tank with newly planted Pogostermon helferi and Cryptocoryne undalata. Still very new to aquatic plants but I swear I get a book and try something new every week.
  12. I'm hoping to slowly build the driftwood up into a craggy mountain type shape with lots of hideaways for height. I was also thinking about a very tall, flowing plant either at the other end of the tank or behind the driftwood. I love shrimp, I've got a starter colony of 15 Fire Reds in my 29 gallon. It's not a terrible idea it work on a nice place for some more in this one. I was hoping to keep it more peaceful because my other tanks are fairly active. I'll have to think on what type of shrimp I want to try out in there. I've had bad luck with sand, for some reason I get terrible root rot whenever I use it, is there a way to fix that? I've tried mixing it with regular pebbles as well but it hasn't worked yet!
  13. I just got started on my newest tank, a 20 gallon. So far there's just Crypto undalata and Pogostemon helferi. They were impulse buys that I've never had before and didn't look up beforehand so I have no idea how it's going to go (lucky they were cheap!). Anyone want to throw around some suggestions/ideas for where to take this one?
  14. Well, I added two more females to divert some attention and give them all a little breathing room. It seems like she's bigger every day but still no where near the images above. Thanks for all the opinions! It'll be interesting to see how this goes.
  15. How long do they stay gravid because she's had that dark spot for ages. It did lighten at one point before getting darker getting. Maybe she self aborted and started again?
