  1. You should be fine to stop. If you see algae starting to develop kick your photoperiod back by a few hours. In regards to your Val's melting that's normal. They don't like excel. If you stop they'll probably bounce right back.
  2. Growing plants emersed works great! I'm sure it'll work out good for you.
  3. Hey Harold, I know it's a long shot asking but hey nothing ventured nothing gained haha. I'm finding difficulty finding a supplier of some plecos. Mainly the L306 Red tigers. If you encounter any on your suppliers list keep me in mind.
  4. 20% on my saltwater tank once a week. 20% on my normal nothing fancy tanks once a week. 75% WC on my Discus and Ram tank twice a week. My heavily planted tanks will depends on if I'm using ferts or not and how heavily stocked they are. Vary from once a week 50% changes to once a month for 20%. Really it depends entirely on you. You can change as much as you want as long as you do it consistently.
  5. Pick up a bag of flourite or eco complete if you're just doing simple plants. ADA is great but if you disturb the substrate the Amazonia stuff will cause an ammonia spike in your water. Tap water is fine if you're using city water. Use Prime as a conditioner. Pick up a good plant growing light. Fluval has a few plant light LED models that would work for your needs. If you don't want to go the LED route then go with a simple T5 light fixture and change the bulb to one around 6700K spectrum. Pick up a good set of small scissors and tweezers from the dollar store (or drug store) for trimming and planting. It'll make your life easier. Don't overpay on the name brand stuff. If you want a nice variety of plants check our Angelfins or ThePlantGuy online. They both ship in Canada and have a very nice variety at a good price.
  6. I make my own. Spare or cheap tile from Home Depot and a time cutter. Then silicone together and viola good to go!
  7. The 20oz arnt overly expensive to retest. They won't last a super long time though on a 55g if you plan go to high light. Invest in the 10lb tank as it'll last you months. Look into getting a decent regulator. It'll help you avoid end of tank dumps.
  8. Big als and petsmart usually has decent Boxing Day sales.
  9. Hello everyone , New to the forum but have been in the hobby for quite some time now. I recently came across a very interesting pleco! You probably have guessed it by the title but it is the L046 Zebra Pleco - Of course. Does anyone have experience in raising/breeding these? I'd like to give it a shot one day and would like to start collecting some information. I've raised and bred both Angelfish and Discus before so I'm sure I'm up to the challenge. Also if anyone has any general information on breeders within Alberta I would definitely appreciate the connection. I'd like to pick their brain on the subject. Look forward to hearing from everyone!
