Mirage

This is the whole lot of my 75g. first digit if my thumb is an inch for scale. The last oranda, Pudge, had a run in with septicemia a month ago and it healing up well despite that red mark on her tail, which is just the last of it healing after a bleed. These guys are about 1.5 years, I think I might breed them not this spring but next. Biggie, the black oranda and Pudge would make some interesting babies.

Thanks! I feed New Life Spectrum once every other day and every week or so the tank gets either shelled peas or a few diced up meal worms. I've tried a few other veggies but they go nuts over the peas.

This is Biggie, he's notorious and just got his breeding stars on xmas day. I'm a super proud fish mom over it so I have to show him off.

I like to do 55-80% 1-2 times a week due to having a 10g with 2 juvi. fancy goldfish. I run a filter for a 30g, but I want that water as nice as possible seeing as they are waste machines.

I've had an issue for the past months and I've done bloody everything but a full tear down with no results. Those little jerks keep on coming back no matter how deep I scrub. Now I know drain flies can't harm my fish, if anything they provide a little snack after becoming adults, but aesthetically it's getting really old. The adults don't eat and the larvae are still hiding despite the cleanings, 80% water changes and tearing out the bio media to start over. My tank is small, only 10g and holds 2 juvenile fancy goldfish (they'll be moving to a 50-60g when I move) and 1 anubias. It's bare bottom and I run a 30g filter system. Anyone have this issue or know of a half descent solution I can implement before I move or should I just wait it out and hope for the best after the move and can give this filter a bleaching. Nope, it wasn't mislabeled, the size I see as a bonus, more waste clean up and less escape chance, their waste is smaller than Pudge's so it's easier for the filter to pick up. Anyway I got the mystery snail and some anubias as well as a better filter. Things are settling in well. Well after Pudge gave up on body checking the snail that is. I've settled on naming the snail John Cena, because it hides among the gems really well and gets me anxious with it's "u can't see me" junk.

They coming along well? I love angels but I'm still far too new to consider owning any. Gosh are they pretty.

Thanks for the offer Plecii, but I'm honestly really weary of other snail types. My sister had an aquarium when we were kids and her pond snails would escape. Stepped on far too many lost guys in bare feet to want to deal with non-gendered snails again. So anything that breeds fast (even if my little guy would eat them) and is small enough to squeeze out where the filter hands is out.

Color's coming in really nice. Today I plan on upgrading my filter and buying a pair of Anubis and a mystery snail to help clean up a little. I have to say I'm kind of proud, look at that angle Pudge holds his tail. What a little prince.

If you're feeling adventurous you might try acrylic with a few dips in a food safe resin after. It's not something I've tried personally but I've been looking into it personally since I'm an art geek and something about resin casts in the aquarium makes my aesthetics senses tingle.

Have you done any conditioning? http://nippyfish.net/2011/03/09/conditioning-bettas-for-breeding/ It's also worth noting that some betta simply won't breed when presented a potential mate, they can be picky especially if they are older. It's very possible that they just aren't a good match or one is over the hill (looking at the male with no bubbles). One might also be too young, males only mature after 6 months and stores often sell them much younger. Sometimes you just need to try conditioning for an extended period and be patient and things will happen. Never can tell what's going through their little minds.

Hi I'm new to fish keeping and was planning on coming out to the next meeting, the only issue is I don't drive. I'm still new to the game, but seeing as I have a juvi goldfish I've been doing a bare minimum of 1 50% a week, but prefer 2. This week I did a 50% on Sunday and 80% on Wednsday since the little poop monster's growth spurt trickled down the cycle. My little bucket routine isn't bad exercise. I get a touch obsessive with testing NO2 and No3, ammonia and ph before and after w\cs. Admitidly I should probably be testing hardness and calcium to.
