  1. I can't really help but I have bought from Brine Shrimp Direct in Ogden, Utah. My sister lives in that city and when I visit I would pick up a can.

At the moment I am not raising fish needing brine shrimp so have not gotten eggs ins some time.

I doubt they ship to Canada but you could check their website. I never have trouble bringing them back across to Alberta.

  2. Keepers of fish from the African Rift Lakes lament that they cannot even artificially get their PH up to 9, so agree, 10 seems weird, especially when you consider PH is a logarithmic scale. Eight is ten times stronger than seven, and nine is 100 times stronger than seven.

  3. In the six foot, 135 gallon. But in the fall due to a fish tank mishap, they had to spend a month in a 90 gallon. I felt bad for them, they had no rock or fancy stuff - but to my surprise they spawned in there (one female) and held full term!

Seven years ago I had wild caught frontosas (kapampa) in my 135 gallon at work for 18 months - and nothing. So I sold them at a big loss. So you just never know what will work and what does not.

  4. I am hoping to be selling some F1 Frontosa mpimbwe juveniles soon.

My cyprichromis fry have not done so well. I have had them before and they just are not that hardy as fry.

So I have just got Taankganyikans at the moment.

Glad the yellow labs are doing well.

I had a friend 10 years ago with a community cichlid tank with demansoni. He was hospitalized so I looked after his few tanks for a year. I kept a few spawns from his demasoni and grew them to an inch and sold them. I was amazed he was able to keep maybe four adults in a community tank with other fish as I felt they needed bigger numbers. I am surprised they did not kill each other. I never raised any fry to adulthood. Pretty fish with a different temperament!

  5. How has the discus keeping been going lately?  I tried it five years ago with 8 discus. After 18 months had three left and gave up and sold them and put that tank back into African cichlids. Don't think I will go that route again. I am normally a good, patient fish keeper but it got the best of me.

  6. I have a 6 foot, 135 gallon tank with two Aqua Clear filters. I added a Hydor 1150gph pump, only because there is a dead spot in the middle and debris accumulates. It is a frontosa tank and they do not care for the strong current so I only have it on for three minutes every two days. It meets my needs without bothering the fish too much.

  7. I live in Calgary and buy most of my fish and supplies from Gold Aquarium over the last 15 years.

I have used The aFISHionados (Spencer Jack) in Winnipeg three times to have fish flown in to Calgary with good results. He carries cichlids I want which I often cannot find elsewhere.

I have bought dry food on-line a couple of times.

  8. I don't have tropheus now but I have had them a couple of times. I used NLS exclusively with great results.

On the subject of NorthFin I tried it this spring on my African cichlids and I have not noticed a difference for the better nor for the worse so I am now using a combination of it and NLS.
