    CO2 Regulator

I've been looking to buy a Dual Stage CO2 Regulator for my planted tank. However all the places I can find online that sells them start at $250 usd, with the exchanged rate that is pretty pricey. I was hoping someone in the Edmonton area knew of a better source for a regulator. As a secondary question, would buying a Dual Stage CO2 regulator intended for welding or homebrewing work if I could find an adapter for aquarium airline tubing?
  2. So, not too sure what's going on with my tank but today I picked out 4 dead RCS and yesterday I had picked out 2. All other shrimp in the tank seem happy and healthy, but among the dead ones today was a heavily pregnant female. This is a 5.5G Fluval Chi planted set up with live plants, the goofy mini CO2 system that comes with, and a fluval nan filter etc... I checked all my water parameters and everything looks good so not sure what the problem is. Temperature is 25C. Background on the tank. Set up with just plants 2.5 months ago, waited a week then cycled with neon tetras for a month. All fish have been removed and the only other inhabitant of the tank now is one zebra nerite snail. After the 6 dead shrimp I'd say there is about 20 cherries left. Any help here would be appreciated, in the past any Cherry Shrimp tanks I've had required little to no maintenance and the little guys flourished/bred like crazy. My only thought here is that I may be putting too much CO2 into the tank as this is my first experiment with CO2. It's just the little Fluval CO2 20 that I'm using and I only fill the chamber in the morning each day (none on weekends as this is a work tank).

    120G Planted

The wife gave me the blessing a couple weeks ago to upgrade my 50G corner tank to something a bit bigger, $200 was my limit. Found a great deal on kijiji for a 6' 120G, it was a little dirty, but after a couple hours i was able to scrap away most of the saltwater algae. Once it was all cleaned i picked up some soil substrate from ckmullin and started the process of moving my plants from the old tank to the new tank. Decided to use the Fluval stratum from the old tank on top of the soil, I had so many malaysian trumpet snails in the stratum and figured i should keep them and didnt want to go through the stratum trying to pick out all the snails. Picked up a Aqueon proflex sump at a great price, got it all connected, got my pressurized CO2 and my LEDs set back up. And now its looking pretty good Now all i need to do is stock it up.
  4. I'm having an issue dealing with hair algae in a tank and am going to try a two day blackout to get rid of any remnants after a water change and mechanical removal. (Read on the forum about making a tool out of pipe cleaners and it works wonders thanks AA) I checked water parameters and the nitrates were 5-10 so I will add some up to 20ppm after blackout. The flow output was also a little low on the filter so I increased that as high as it would go after cleaning. I will also reduce the photoperiod from 11 to 9 hours and have removed one of the 3 lights on the tank. The light was burning the glosso carpet. My question is regarding CO₂. I feel a little silly asking but I am assuming that the solenoid should be unplugged during the blackout as it is controlled by the light timer and not a pH controller. Please feel free to advise on any other solutions to the issue.
  5. I can't seem to fit my 5 lb tank under my cabinet vertically and was wondering if it is safe to mount it horizontally. I have a baby so the tank needs to be on lock down wherever it goes.
  6. For anyone who uses CO2 cylinders (not the paintball cans) where are you going to get refills? I thought it would be good for people to list the name of the place they are going, address, and cost for refill (approx.). This will give a good resource for people who want to find someplace close to where they live to go refill. I am currently refilling my cylinders at: "The Recharge Center" 5622 Burleigh Crescent SE, Calgary, AB (403) 258-1141 http://rechargecentre.com/ - for my 10lb tank they are charging $40 for an on the spot fill (not sure the price if you leave it with them and pick it up in a few days) While they have good service, it is a pain for me to get down to that location. I live downtown and I work in the northeast. Does anyone know of a place that fills cylinders that would be a shorter drive from downtown or that I can do right after work in the NE? I have made calls before around and many of them say they don't do refills for small tanks, just large industrial ones or they only deliver and swap out empties for companies.
  7. I am currently using the stock Fluval 88G CO2 system and observe a good portion of the bubbles reaching the surface (uses a ceramic disk). I have looked at several other methods of diffusing CO2 and am curious what other people have found to work best in terms of efficiency. The method must be... less than $50 aesthetic no ceramic disks or ladders I am considering... power head co2 reactor (not too sure whats involved with this?) placing the co2 output near my HOB filter intake? Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!
  8. I have a co2 system releasing 1 bubble per second via ceramic diffuser into a 26 gallon tank for 8 hours a day during the photo period. I use tap water for water changes and can't seem to get the pH to lower past 7.8 (highest reading on my pH test). I know the Edmonton water has a fairly high KH but i feel like i may be doing something completely wrong here. I can give more details of my water chemistry if helpful. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read this and reply!
