  1. Hi I noticed one night this Fish was near the top of the tank in the middle breathing really really hard. The other fish avoided them or chased it away and there were no signs of stress on any other fish (breathing, black barring on the peacocks, clamped Finns, not eating, flashing, excess slime coat, etc.) the ONLY symptom on ANY fish was the heavy breathing on the one Mbuna. I fell asleep and in the morning it was dead. I pulled it out and since it hadn't been touched by the other fish I checked the gills. NO Gill tissue was left except the Gill plate. absolutely no trace. It just had bare bone visible. I have done a water change and dosed with salt but I really need to identify the culprit so I can prevent this from happening again! THANK YOU
  2. One of my angelfish is not eating and it has been about 48 hours. There is 2 and they are being treated with tetracycline (day 3, just did 25% water change) in about 15 gal. of water. Have a heater, a bubbler, and a filter running all good for 25 gal. tank. I feed them once a day, he looks interested but then food just floats by his face and he doesn't try to eat. How long can an angelfish survive without eating? Is it time to stop treatment? I know with human bacterial infections you want to treat for the full course, otherwise any existing bacteria can become immune. Thanks
  3. I've attached some pictures from my 29G tank. We've had no deaths, everyone is fine and acting normal, and have been for quite some time. We had an issue months ago, where a white skirt tetra had a cloudy popped out eye. We treated with Melafix, with no fix, then did agressive water changes, and it cleared up...mostly. Everything was fine until recently, when an indian glass fish got a blotch on his tail and what looks like slime on his side? He's acting fine, and everything seems normal. I started treating Melafix a week ago, and no change in this fish, or the original white skirt. I do a regular routine of water changes weekly. Anybody know what this is? Advice to fix it? You can see the stocking list in my signature for this tank. thank you, Eric Can see a blotch on his tail. Tail Blotch (left fish) Rear fin and pectoral fin Colombian with small white mark on eye (on both eyes) Tail, and 'forehead' "Healed" eye I posted 13 'problem' pictures in an album, if you want to have a peek. I'm not sure if some fish just have marks, or if this is three fish with issues. No marks or anything on anyone else. http://s1343.beta.photobucket.com/user/flash_oesc/library/29G
  4. My Chocolate Albino Pleco is very sick. i think it may be severe finrot. Reason being why i didnt detect it before is because his fins didnt really change color. atleast not noticibly. I dont know what medicine to use for finrot but im going to go to the store tomorrow ans ask around. it might be past being able to save him but i have to try. if anybody knows what this may be orcan confirm whether or not it is just severe rot that would be great. also if you know what medicine i need and how to go about treating him that would be great! im very new to this website but it looks promising :-D
  5. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and unfortunately my first post is not a happy one. My parents have a pond with 3 larger koi (7-9lb) and one goldfish (around 2lb). The pond is stricken with a parasite (I have seen one worm on one of the fish) and perhaps more that is causing lesions on the fish as well as inappetance and lethargy. I am not an expert but these fish are important to me as some of them have been in the family for close to a decade. I've done my best to help them out with cleaning and covering the wounds as well as treating the pond, however, my efforts are not matched by the rest of the family. I also don't live in the same town as my folks and can't possibly visit as often as I would need to in order to properly address the situation. I think the fish would be better off with an expert. Do any of you know of a fish lover who has the space, resources and time to adopt my scaley friends? I can't bear to see them sick. Thanks so much for reading; this is really wearing on my soul.
