Osprey
That's actually an interesting question... I've never seen a site that bothered to post the typical lifespan of hermit crabs. I can tell you that I've had my dwarf zebras for a year and a half now, and with no indications that they are likely to die of old age any time soon. ckmullin
no no? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermit_crab Hermit crabs are often seen as a "throwaway pet" that would live only a few months, but species such as Coenobita clypeatus have a 23 year lifespan if properly treated,[21] and some have lived longer than 32 years.[22][23] With this info find out what species you have. MMAX
When I started SW over 4 years ago with a 20 gallon tank I stocked it with 12 blue legged hermits. Believe it or not I still have one of the origials left.
Aysha
My oldest hermit is about 5. he's a blue leg the size of a toonie. if crabs only lived a year how would you explain the monster sized ones? My snails don't seem to last however...I think the crab gets them eventually.

Chelsea716
Just gonna say this, I own land hermit crabs and they can live up to 50+ years in wild. Range from marble to softball in sizes. The golf ball or larger hermit crabs in stores are at least 10 years old
