Removing media baskets

On my Tropheus sp. "Black" (Kiriza) tank I took out the Cascade 1200 filter and removed the media baskets so that I could get more media into the filter and remove as much opportunity for bypass. The pictures below show a visual timeline of what I did.

Here is the filter with the lid off:

The cleaned up media that was in the filter:

I put an old XP compartment divider on the bottom on the edges that are about 2 inches above the bottom of the canister to raise the media off of the bottom:

The whole point of this was to put more plastic pot scrubbers into the canister. You can get 6 of them at the dollar store for a...dollar.

Starting to put them in to fill up the space around the compartment divider:

Putting the old sponges in:

Putting in some old and some new polyfiber:

Fitting the last pot scrubbers:

The fitting strainer/lid and I am done:

With taking the media compartment out I was able to add 24 pot scrubbers and keep all of the other media!
