Jayba
I recieved a 55 gallon tank that is dirty and was in storage for a long time. Just wondering what I can use to clean it. It has hard water stains where the last 10 or so gallons evaporated out. There is dry slime, goo, gunk or mung on the glass. It's a mess. Not sure what to use to get this thing clean. Any advice? jewels
I would start by 'proofing' it - outdoors. Then you would know if it in fact held water. Saturation will also help to loosen up the deposits.
Cgy_Betta_Guy
I would agree that ya should test out the tanks ability to hold water outside for a couple days. Once you get the evaporation marks wet/underwater they might not show up as much as you would think. Vinegar is supposed to be very good with softening and removing hard water deposits. A razor blade would also come in handy too.
fishclubgirl
Personally I like CLR myself for heavy duty cleaning. Just make sure to really rinse it!!!!I do use vinegar on the outsides of some of my tanks(aargh Calgary water!!)
snaggle
I almost always use viniger water and a scour pad. I have tryed a razor in the past but I find the vinger works best then I use the razor on the tough spots.
