waster
over the holidays, im moving fish out of their tank (at work) and keeping them somewhere else for 2 weeks. id like to keep the tank at work cycled. how do i go abouts doing this? just throw 2 weeks worth of food in and let it rot to keep amonia production up??? BettaFishMommy
too much ammonia can be harmful to the beneficial bacteria. i wouldn't toss that much food in at one time. is there going to be anyone at your work over the holidays? would you be able to ask them to feed the tank every couple of days, as if there was fish in there? that would provide a steady stream of small amounts of ammonia and that would be better to keep the cycle going. corrosionjerry
I would pretend that you are doing a fishless cycle and use the prescribed amount of pure amonia for the gallonage of the tank...
williewonka
Why not drain the tank, take the filter and put it on the same tank as the fish?
Morphine
I'm sure you tank will be fine for a week or so while your gone.
Vallisneria
Is there no one at work that can feed the fish every few days? Or you drop in to feed them? If you absolutely need to take the fish home with you, bring the filter too. You'll loosed some of the bacteria that was living in the tank/gravel so just watch for a mini cycle when you put your fish back in that tank.
