Wgcc1
I was just wondering whether it's possible to keep cherries and crystal red/blacks using tap water.
jeremoose
I recently tried this experiment and the CRS just didn't thrive like the Cherrys did (I used Yellow Shrimp but they're the same species).
ckmullin
I use calgary tap for cherries and they do fine. Breed too.
Wgcc1
I guess neos are the only species that will do well in tap.

jeremoose
Depends what your tap water is like :P Are you interested in breeding your CRS? They require fairly specific TDS, GH, and KH to breed.
nancyr
I am experimenting breeding CRS SSS grade in Calgary tap water. I had a 50% loss but managed to breed and successfully bring up 10 so far, hopefully if I can get these 10 to breed then I am on the way. There is absolutely no issue breeding any of the cherries in Calgary tap water. I know Franco keeps all his exotic shrimp in Calgary tap water, and they breed, so it can be done. Just takes patience I guess (and $).
Kirinashi
It may also depend on what season it is. In the spring, tap water tends to have a lot more junk because of the snow melt and runoff. Last I checked Calgary tap water this spring it was at about 250 TDS. Last summer it was 180-ish. That will add to the challenge.
