Silicone Use In Running Tank With Fish

Hello, I have a 3D background made out of foam in my aquarium. In one place a fish has taken a bite into the background, ripping out a chunk and exposing white foam. I have aquarium safe black silicone. Question is can I take a small dab of silicone and apply it to the background to cover up the white spot? There are fish in the aquarium. Will the silicone give off toxins poisonous to the fish while curing or would it be alright for such a small amount?

Tried searching for similar issues with no luck. Please let me know if there is a better alternative to silicone as well.

Thanks

Every horror story I've heard from people using "aquarium safe" silicon is from not letting it cure before adding water/fish.
