What Kind Of Fish Are These?

Recommended Posts

I got these cichlids from a mixed mbuna tank

From a pet store.

Anyone got a clue what they might be?

#2 looks like it's probably a cross between Lab. perlmutt and probably Yellow Lab.

Kinda sucks I paid 40 bucks for that fish.. he is pretty nice looking though.

Well, if you like the fish, then okay, enjoy it :)

Just make sure there are no other Labidochromis in the tank that might result in further hybridization ;)

I have had some unidentified fish in the the past, I just make sure they don't breed (usually an all male mbuna tank)

I agree...nothing wrong with hybrids if you enjoy them. Just make sure you don't breed them and pass them on as something else. If you cannot 100% identify...not a good idea to breed it in the first place. But if you already have hybrids and you like them...keep them. Don't have to destroy a fish because its hybrid. But just my opinion.

Hybrids are fine, as long as one is not breeding any mbuna in that tank. Mbuna do not have to be of the same species, or even from the same genus, to successfully breed. Any dominant male mbuna will breed with any female fish that is ripe, including non mbuna.
