Lubricating Canister Filter Seal...

I had this issue a while ago - I had used Vaseline for a year or two while I didn't have silicone grease/lubricant. While its hard to tell, my O ring is old, I think it did 'go funny' a bit. It wasn't a resilient or springy as my other canister filter O ring. Since then I bought plumbers silicone grease. I'm assuming its fish safe, silicone grease/lubricant is funny when it comes to companies outright saying"foodsafe" etc. I got the impression that it is foodsafe adjacent, so as RD said don't use in excess. Anyways, nice sized tin for 5$, vs a tiny finger dab for 7$ from hardware stores. I haven't checked on my filters since then, but no leaks or issues.

Does it really matter? meh?
