Very nice. Are you using RO water, peat, etc.? Find them more difficult to care for than your other fish? I've never taken the plunge into discus but I've been heavily considering it for a number of years... lol
I find the wild ones are more needy than domestic varieties. They require a very clean tank as the low ph where they come from seems to make them vulnerable to bacteria that thrive in our high ph water. Most discus people do major water changes daily. I have kept my stock low (13 fish in a 230gallon) and I do 30% water changes every 2 days.
I don't use RO water but my house is filtered by a Pelican water system. I don't have any chlorine and water comes out of the tap at 7.5 ph.
Are you running off a well, or does the Pelican work on city water also?
I am on city water.
Dang. 7.5 and no chlorine? Sign me up Thanks for answering. I may have to give discus a shot. Did you order yours or source them locally?
I got them from Calgary. Alberta Discus. I wouldn't go with wild caught discus. Wild strains F1 or F2 but not wild caught.
A few new discus.
Lemon yellow-the only one of the group with blue in the anal fin.
royal red turquoise-these guys will be stunning when they mature
Just saw these in person, beautiful group of fish.
Really nice. I'm jealous!
Those are crazy nice Discus. Wish I could keep them long term without something going sideways. Seems to go from perfect to hell in a real hurry
Yeah, I've had a few issues with them already. I got a group of wild caught discus and only 2 of the 8 are left. The domestics are doing pretty good I think I have a couple that are paired up, but then I have one that hasn't been eating. They are definitely harder to keep than most fish. Here's a few new pics:
