Question about re-lining pond

Recommended Posts

I have a approx. 300 gal lined pond that has a slow leak and we can't trace the source.

My fiance wants to just add new liner overtop the old liner. Is that a good idea?

If you're going to the trouble of removing all of the rock, you may as well remove the old liner as well. Keep it for other projects like a small bubbling rock feature, or a self-watering planter box.  But, just to answer the question, there is no problem with just throwing a new liner on top of an old liner.

I was told a way to find the leak.

Stop the pump to let water to sit still. Let it continue to leak. If the water stops to go down at a certain level, the leak is along the surface. Add a little water to raise the water level by a tiny bit. Pour some milk along the edge. you should see the milk goes out where the leak is. However, this method des not work for very slow leak though.
