Double Tail Betta

An interesting mutation appeared in a strain of bettas in the Libby's basement, also! This mutation has two pronounced effects on the fish. First, the caudal fin is split into two distinct lobes. Second, the number of rays in the dorsal fin is enormously increased. This results in a fin that is nearly a mirror image of the anal fin. I had thought this was a mutation that began in oriental countries...Thank you Jim Stigliano for the info!

Just thought i would add a breeding note. When breeding for the DT gene, do not breed two DT together. It is a lethal dominent gene. Meaning you will loose most of your fry and those that survive will have very short bodies and great difficulty swimming. To breed DT select EITHER! a male or female DT and a spouse of the same fin variety (plakat, Half Moon Plakat, Crown Tailed,Super Delta, Half Moon, or Veiltailed) Most of your fry will take the Double tailed gene as it is dominent.

Happy Fishkeeping !
