  1. Most of my fish have come from Spencer Jack or Fairdeal on this forum and few from various auctions and a few from some state side orders...... Most of the fish stores cater to the everyday people buying fish for their children and people very new to the hobby, so they carry the common types. Understandable they are running a business and need to sell to that crowd to stay open...

  2. There are many good ro systems that can be purchased on ebay and amazon for around 150 dollars... 3 , 4, and 5 stage that can get your water tds down to zero ppm ... easy to hook up to any water tap and for normal use the membranes last about a year before needing replacement. For many of the tetras and soft water fish breeding success becomes easier in my opinion using 2/3 ro water mixed with about 1/3 city of edm water... or just pure ro water to spawn the fish then doing the mix to raise the fry as they need many of the minerals that

exist in untreated water for their normal growth.

  3. Is it legal to buy cyclopseeze in the states and bring it back... I am planning on a trip to states in June / July and hope I can find this product in one of the stores there.... In fact is it legal to bring back other types of packaged fish food... I know fresh food for human consumption is not allowed so curious if fish food is included.

  4. Try and find a planted finnex led fixture, I have had great success in growing all of my plants with these led lights... I have a rich carpet of glosso in a 20inch deep tank as an example... Finnex are very reasonably priced and you dont have to change the bulbs every 6 months....as you have to with the T5HO setups.

  5. If you have black brush algae you will likely have to shut the tank down and clean it out thoroughly and also do something with the substrate if you want to reuse it! It is nearly impossible to get rid of in a tank once it takes hold..

  6. Spencer is carrying a line of LED lights called ELIVE. The base units come with a certain number of 'pods' and you can add more pods. Prices look reasonable.

Looking at the site I am not sure if these are any good for plant growth... to bad finnex doesn't have csa rating to be sold in Canada anymore.. I have have a 48" , and 3- 32" units and they work great for plant growth... Does Elive have anything that is K6000-K7000 rated?

  7. I would say the sand is a big improvement... I would get rid of the light volcano at the bottom of the tank and the rock to the right of it as they don't fit in my opinion... however all that matters is what you like! I just prefer the natural set up look.

  8. Traffic66 How did you get amazon.com to ship to you? I tried and Amazon will not let me go through the check out process with a Canadian address.

Some will say that they ship to Canada, while others will say they don't. You will see the write up under where it says if it's in stock or not. If the one you clicked doesn't, try one of the other ones on the right side.

    exactly!

  9. Jason I have a bag of them as well. There was bag of fish from the same person that I bought because they were being sold as blue dolphins. but when the runner came with bag it was quite apparent that they were not blue dolphins. Didn't have the body shape or the colour. So not sure what we got with the german red shoulders.......interesting.

Somebody has to talk to that clown that brought those to auction... and did that , the blue dolphin thing was hilarious when they brought them to you.... at least the AA guys made things right for you.

  10. I used miracle grow organic potting mix ( found a couple bags at Home depot ) and topped it off with flourite and a little fine gravel... your water will be the colour of tea for several water changed however it gradually will clear up... I have a 4" substrate

I threw in about 20 white cloud minnows to cycle the tank and make sure it was not going to poison any future fish that I may put in there / no problems the minnows are still alive and thriving after three weeks, I have started to also scape it with plants and everything looks great... have co2 injection and with be also be dosing the water with the proper nutrients / I am using a finnex 48" led finray 2 Light ... if that isn't enough Iight I will supplement with either another Led light or with T5 fluorescent lighting...

    good luck with your project
