Can't believe how big these guys are now. Grabbing food from the surface and finding hiding spots in the rocks and plants.

I have one smaller, darker, thinner fry. Not as active or responsive as the rest. Do I cull it now?

And they're out! 14 healthy little fronts. Two days after I moved the female to the holding tank they appeared. She's back in the main tank where she got a well deserved big meal and the fry are eating ground up NLS

I can already see them trying to get out when she tries to feed! I think I need to move her and / or them pretty soon.

Just noticedlast night that my sub female is holding. First time dealing with breeding Frontosa.

- how can I tell how far along / how long she has been holding?

- should I purchase or build an egg tumbler and install in main tank or wait as long as I can and strip and put fry in holding tank?

- holding tank is small (10g cube) Can I attempt to put 5" female in there until she releases? Not my preferred choice, but I don't want to risk losing fry to compressiceps in main tank

Or I might just go back to the Tanganyikans I love, starting with frontosa that I'm making deals for now. Is everyone so indecisive or is it just me?

Real stoked on the idea of green terrors. Watched some videos, read lots, think that's the direction I'm going to go. I have long term plans for a very large tank (arrowana!) so they can eventually go there. By then I can get back into tanganyikans in the 90. Would do that now, but feel the urge for something new.

Jeremoose - leaning towards Midas. Would I be able to keep 2 in my 90g corner?

Ranger - had Severums before, too messy, ate all my plants, not into them. I guess if I had to have fish that destroyed all my plants I want it big enough for the effort

Jayba - I considered altums when I made the switch from marine to discus a few years ago, wouldn't their behaviour be very similar? How drastically would I have to change my tank for tapajos? I do find them very interesting.

Ck - I can't see using my big 90 for nothing but shrimp and plants, too slow for me. Maybe my little cube, but would rather use it for fry

Jaywho - yep, hard to deny how that would satisfy. I get big fish along with smaller interesting behaviour and fry. And I am Tanganyikan biased as well. But never had a big South American, thought it might be fun for the kids to have a wet pet for years.

Deano - that's what I have now - discus, Cory cats, and a big school of cardinals.

I'm becoming bored withy planted discus tank. Considering either returning to Tanganyikans or trying a large South American for the first time.

I love the plants, and the driftwood, but I still have enough rock saved to make another good Tanganyikan aquascape. I know I could do almost any group of tangs and have babies and that would be very interesting. But also thinking a single or couple really big fish would be fun, and easy.

Background: kept fish for 30+ years, 90g bow front, more filtration and power heads than I need.

What would you do?

Everything works but the wet / dry attachment, just a continuous flow of water, no surge. Can sometimes establish a wave function if the intake is closed more than halfway. Everything is clean and there are no leaks. Anybody have experience with this?

I was just going on what was on the other forum. I personally don't know what it is.

They called it a Eunicid worm of some type. Reminds me of the shad worms you can find on the clam flats.

Look in the shadows, they're there.

Just another part of the natural life in the ocean, just like the tiny brittle stars, starfish and feather dusters that are now all through my tank years after setting it up. And the only fish they will eat is a dead one, they are scavengers and are beneficial to your tank.

However, I still curse the ugly, itchy bastiches every time I grab one by mistake.

I wonder if nice corals or plants live in those fast moving streams???

In the case of corals, yes.

When I had a 55gal I ran a powerhead 802 plus 3 maxijets on a wave timer. Increasing water flow may not cure your problem but it will definitely help.

Shouldn't be too bad. Scrap the dolly idea. It will be harder to set the tank down and pick it back up again than resting for a sec then carrying it to the truck. Plus, if it is going to break it will be on the dolly.

I have never seen a powerhead that was not submersible.

FLIP, if you are concerned with price just keep an eye on the classified forum, you should be able to find a used one for under $20.

A couple weeks ago my eheim pro started making gurgling sounds from the overflow tube. I tried repositioning it and fiddled with the in / out but still the same annoying sound. Anyone know how to make it stop?

I really enjoyed having calvus with my leleupi, both for behaviour and colour contrast. I had the best luck with a couple seperate piles of slate; large pile for calvus, small pile for loopies.

I second the recommendation for keeping a trio. Much more interesting. Also keep in mind how slowly these fish grow, so it's probably wise to buy older fish which can be easily sexed.

I have a philodendron I want to use. I'm thinking I will have to remove from the store pot, rinse well, and this is the part I'm not sure of. Can I plant or support it on a piece of driftwood? or eggcrate above tank with roots poking through? or some hanging planter with roots hanging below? Light source will be the window adjacent to the tank so tank lighting will not be an issue.

I am interested in growing a plant or two above my discus tank but I am having trouble finding any info online. Can anyone point me in the right direction or give me a brief step-by-step?

Following a few days use the cannister is pumping through considerably less water, so the flow is almost tolerable. But now I'm intrigued by the concept of adding more spraybars. And since this is destined to be a discus tank I think the extra work will be appreciated by the future occupants.

Anybody else do something along these lines?

I'd use one AC and 2217. I love the canister/AC combo myself and use them in almost my tanks. I don't clean the canisters often, maybe once a year or when flow rate really decreases. I use just sponges in my AC's and find that at times I'm squeezing them out every other week with water changes.

I was thinking of drilling more holes in the current bar.

I don't have enough room to add length to the spraybar, unless I put it along the back of the tank and spray the water forward...

Can you get a "control valve" like the one that XP3 has? It connects before the spraybar and allows you to control the output.

I just finished going through all the trouble of switching my old eheim classic with a wet/dry professional and there is way too much flow for my 55gal. Is there any way I can dumb the current down or should I go back to old reliable?
