  1. As SloughShark pointed out, I havent updated this thread in ages. Been so busy lately between my carpentry job during the week, working at Red Coral on the weekend and building tank stands in whatever free time I can. So here is the requested fts. Pics were taken by a friend, Josh (JDigital).

  2. CAS (Calgary Aquariums Society) holds monthly meetings and auctions every now and then, but the majority of the topics discussed at the meetings and items at the auction are more fresh water oriented. The only reef related gatherings(that I know of) are the all to infrequent frag swaps organized on canreef. I held one a year ago, posted it it there as well as here. The most recent swap was just a few weeks ago. It was a good time, and nice to put faces to some of the names.

  3. I know many people mix the two lakes with good results. But consider that comps and calvus are probably the least aggressive of the tangs. They are considered shy by cichlid standards and unless they are a comparable size to your malawis they will likely be reclusive. Oh and if you do get some, dont mix comps and calvus...there is a chance they can inter-breed.

  4. That's great, can't wait till it fills in completely!

Thanks again Shark, Im workin on it. A couple of the nicer RC colonies I brought home from the shop. The A. Lovely came with two acro crabs. One is the bandit looking one that you get pics of if you google acro crabs. The other looks different. So not sure if its an acro crab or not.It sure hasnt left the A. Lovely it came on. Gonna try and see if I can get a shot of it.Keep in mind these just spent 4 days in a bag in the dark, so obviously not fully colored back up yet.

  5. Just a side note. The Euroreef skimmers have a "zero clearance" collection cup. Meaning you dont need space above the skimmer to lift the collection cup up and off the skimmer body. It has a locking collar that you twist open, then slide the collection cup to the side to remove it. This can make a huge difference, as space is usually at a premium in most stands.

Thanks again fishy , This forum seems to be the best at finding out what to purchase as the LFS seem to each have their own ideas

and products to sell even if what their selling isn't what would best suit the customer or the type of tank we have . I find that talking to

other people in the hobby is the best source for info . I have been to GOLDS,ELITE,WEI'S,OCEANCITY,PISCES,RIVERFRONT just about

every store in calgary and they all have their own reasons to buy their product . so I'm going to wait till the tank and stand arrive's

to see how much room I have to play with . But like I said it seem's that euroreef seems to be a real favorite with a lot of people .

    Thank's again

Another side note. I work at Red Coral aquarium. A good friend of mine bought it and recently took over. We are in the middle of a huge store clean up and re-organization. Our policy will be to provide the reefer with the most accurate advice possible, even if that means we lose a sale.

  7. For all the pic thirsty peeps out there here a few pics from a week or two ago, a couple weeks after the tank was both moved( as in houses) and transfered into a new tank. I was quite surprised how quickly things seemed to settle in.

  8. Looks fantastic! I love the purple cap. Glad to see you got your "runaway tri-color" back  What kind of lighting are you running?

Thanks Shar...may I call u Shar? Yes, Darth Wader had it and was trying to convert it to the dark side. Im kinda embarrassed to tell you about my lighting, because its a hodge podge of sorts, atm. A 150w MH with two HOT5 actinics on one side and four HOT5s and pc combo on the other side. Am kinda waiting for the new job to start to upgrade my lighting.

  9. I snapped a few top down pics of some recent additions. I also added a bi-color blenny. I was really missing the one I had before. Hopefully this one doesnt decide to carpet surf.

Purple monti cap I got from Danny Z at the frag swap.

    IMGP1769.jpg

Tri-color acro also from Danny Z.

    IMGP1771.jpg

Purple tort frag from Snappy at the swap.

    IMGP1772.jpg

And another purpleish, so far un-identified acro I got from El Guappo(Mike) for helping him frag some stuff up.

  10. In about 4 to 6 weeks im going to get my new 150 gal sw tank in from tenacor . I would like suggestions on a suitable protien skimmer

( Brands, sizes, what you like or dislike about ones you have or would like to have ) their are so many differant kinds . Went to a few

differant sites and read up on the pluses and minuses ( cant spell worth heck ) . Im a bit confused . I paid good money for tank and

sump system from these guys so I want a good skimmer to go with it. Thanks again for your input ladies and gentlemen .

Really depends on what your budget is. There is no decent cheap skimmer. You get what you pay for. I would suggest ASM or Euro-reef for a mid range skimmer and if money isnt an issue get the bubble king. I have a Euro-reef rs 135 on my 110g and am really happy with it so far. It is easy to adjust and has a zero clearance collection cup( meaning the cup doesnt lift up and off the skimmer body, it slides off to the side so no space is required above the top of the collection cup.) I think the next size up for a Euro-reef is the rs-180. Expect to pay around $500 for a decent skimmer and if your fortunate enough a bubble king will go around $1400.

  11. Heres what the tank looks like now, unless Ive changed it again. I used the same double overhang theme from the 68g. I really only used two of the original pieces from the 68g overhang on these new ones. These ones are more massive than the last and and I was able to put the pillar in that I didnt have room for previously.
