Just wondering if anyone knows where in calgary i can find and glass CO2 diffuser. I am running pressurized CO2 in my planted tank now and the hagen ladder diffuser just isnt cutting it anymore. Here is an example of what i am talking about.

Anyone have any ideas ?

If you are still looking i would recommend ebay. Found a 5 piece set (the same ones sold at azgardens) for only $34 CAN.

I get my 20 lb. filled at Riverstar Fire Protection in Calgary for $25.

Not sure about edmonton but going to any fire protection shop will save you about 50 % compared to praxair.

If you dont want to go to the expense of a pH controller then i would advise to pick up a drop checker. They are reliable way to monitor your CO2 concentration.

I definetely agree with werner about the lights, ferts, CO2 thing. You really should do all 3 at once because just 2 out of 3 = algae. I started adding CO2 and high light with no ferts and BAM, algae all over. Now that i add ferts with 3 WPG and CO2 my plants have exploded and i have almost no algae (i dont know anyone who has NO algae).

When you decide to make this step let me know and i will send you TONS of links to websites as well as where to get CHEAP ferts and places to get your CO2 stuff.

For now i would recommend adding seachems excel if you arent putting in any CO2...its basically the only other way to add carbon to your tank which is essential for plant growth.

If you have a decent fish load and feed the fish well then your nitrogen and phosphate levels will be more than adaquate (hence why your phosphate reading went up from the tap levels). Some people who have amazing planted tanks dont dose these 2 ferts and do just fine.

In closing DONT be afraid of ferts. I am sure you have read about the Estimative Index (EI) method of dosing dry ferts and its costs let than 10 cents a day from where i buy the ferts. It also VERY easy. Basically all you need is a scale and a spoon and 3 or 4 types of ferts and you are done. So simple once you understand it all.

Like i said i did a TON of research when i got into this 6 months ago and would be glad to share with you.

Most new condos are cement so the leak wont go "down" but playing the devils advocate here just dont tell anyone you have a tank. Unless you have the condo board over for tea who will ever know ?

Are those ikea shelves you have your tanks on ?....BRAVE ! haha

Ok great ! What do i do with my plants during my tank cycling with the new substrate tho ? Can they be planted asap when my tank is only 1/4 full for easy planting (i have read i think) ? If so do i dose ferts the same day i fill the tank or wait a certain amount of time ?

If you cant find one...just get a rubbermaid container and add your filter...as good as tank!

Will they hold alot of water ? If so then that is a great idea. If i cant find a tank to borrow then i will try that for sure.

Hi All,

I am about to change my substrate in the next few days from generic gravel to eco-complete. Problem is i have nowhere to keep my fish while i do the change and cycle the newly set up tank.

Would anyone in calgary (preferrably southern but anywhere in calgary is fine) have a 10 or 15 gallon tank sitting around that i could rent or borrow from them for a week or two ? It would REALLY help me out becuase i have no idea what i will do with my fish if i cant find one !
