  1. The top one is a Neolamprologus sexfasciatus they are almost identical to a tret except they have 6 bars instead of five like the tret and grow to 9" where as a tret only reaches 6". Pop_Eye really liked the sexfasciatus Sammy and I have and now I see she has a little beauty of her own How big is the sexfasciatus Pop_Eye? Looking good Amy
  2. Thanks Pop_Eye! You are welcome here anytime - not just to buy fish, there is nothing better than talking fish with people who love them!! I wish we had known some local breeders when we first started instead of having to pay the big bucks at Big Als but, at least we got high quality beautiful fish. Thank you so much for letting us know they had Neolamprologus tretocephalus at Big Als. Sammy went and picked one up shortly after you left...he's a real beauty. Sammy will probably post some pics soon. Amy
  3. Just a little update on this guy he is now a proud papa!! Mama is doing well and will probably get stripped today. RDFISHGUY, he is in a custom 30 gallon just him and his lady. As soon as we strip her we will put the male back in the show tank (all male) and let her rest up for a week and then it will be time for round two. I hope the fry grow as fast as the male we have...he was maybe 1.5" in February when we purchased him and is now 4.5". The only other fish we have had that grew this fast was back when we had a borleyi who grew crazy fast and then turned into a :cuss: so we traded him in. Thanks for the compliments we will let you know when the fry are ready to go. Amy PS- I think they have been in this tank less than two weeks together
  4. Those are super cute!! They even look like they are smiling Amy
  5. Those are really nice pictures and beautiful fish
  6. Hi RDFISHGUY, I haven't bred any phenos but we have bred various africans. Phenos are my favorite and would love to hear from you if you do get some fry. I read on a previous post that you have one male and one female you may first off want to get at least two more females to up your chances of breeding. IME - having only one rock cave and lots of open space for them is always a good idea and a lot less work for the male to find the females. The fish seem to get in the 'mood' so to speak after a water change. Keep an eye on them if you only have one female as some males tend to get agressive (I know this isn't the nature of Phenos but, I haven't seen them breed before). Give them some time intially to get settled and then start with weekly water changes. HTH, Keep us posted! Amy
  7. Sorry about your loss. Just wondering, how long has your tank been up and running? How old are your test kits, is it possible they may have expired? What kind airation do you have in your tank (airstone..etc.)? Before the weekend were you doing any aquascaping where you possibly could have stired up an ammonia pocket in the substrate or by moving a rock? HTH, Amy
  8. The tank is 60 gallons...we were going to get silver but, someone couldn't wait!!! :bang1: :chair: We still need to add more sand and the background when it's all dolled up and finished we will post more pics.
  9. The link pretty much says everything ours has gone/going through. He was around 4" when we got him about a year ago (w/c and he's MY baby, I don't care what sammy says!). He didn't start flecking for at least six months and as you can see from only a couple of months he has gotten way more flecks. He is absolutly beautiful though (IMO). I would REALLY like to have a species tank of these, I prefer these over frontosas. From what I have seen the females of this species are really pretty too they tend to be a pearl colour with navy blue barring. Also, these guys are not aggressive in the slightest just a wonderful fish all around...I would recommend these to anyone who has a peacock/hap tank. Hope yours are doing well degrassi, keep us posted. Amy
  10. Thanks for all the info... Canadbis - The two sharks look very different in shape one is larger and more plump looking and the other is more slender shape. Tanked - Sounds like this is typical behavior of Bala Sharks The sharks were not aggrsive with eachother while they were dancing together. I wasn't expecting to learn they have not bred in captivity - yet there is bala sharks at every LFS!? Bummer... I was hoping for some little babies Thanks again! Amy
  11. Thanks for the info...if by some miracle they do breed I'll let you know Amy
  12. A friend of mine has a small community tank and has two bala sharks one is about 3" and the other is about 4-5". She only has a couple of small fish in her tank (the kind escapes me) and she started to ask me why her bala sharks would be dancing around in circles and shaking...my first thought was they were breeding...however, all my fish knowledge is for African Cichlids and I wasn't sure just how the sharks do it I told her I would look into it for her. I tried to look up info on the breeding habits of bala's and the only info I could find is they are egg layers and are difficult to breed in captivity. IF, her bala's are breeding could someone tell me what she should expect.? And, if they do breed should she put the babies in a seperate tank? Thanks in advance, Amy
