  1. Picking up a 4 foot 2 bulb shop light for a cheap odno setup tommorrow, and want bulbs that will make my rams colours really pop. Any suggestions?
  2. I'll try and make some decent pictures of everyone tommorrow night, lights are already off tonight.
  3. Picked up two female german blue rams at franco's today, they are settling in nicely - although one of them had a ripped dorsal fin after finally getting into their new home. Not sure if that happened on route, or before hand but hopefully she's ok. I have a bolivian ram (Heimlich) or red ram (never understood why the red in that common name - mines pink/yellow with that cool blue hue). He's about a year old to me now, and I think full grown. Anyways, he's strutting around the tank so happy right now! He'll go into the brightest point of the tank stretch out all of his fins and do his little happy I'm such a stud dance. The new ladies of the tank will come and swim around him, one of the two will chase the other off and then Heimlich will swim into a dark corner with the dominant lady of that show for a little bit. Everyone will go off and do their own thing for a while, and then the whole thing happens all over again. It's quite amusing to watch, I sat for about 30 mins watching. How long will they do this, before Heimlich picks one? I was worried that he wouldn't care for the new ladies, being a different strain?, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Can the two interbreed? What's the end result? I guess a Franco's plug is in order now. I was told that Riverfront would have some, at the beginning of the week, went when I was told would be good, and there was none there. Went by Franco's after someone else here suggested it and really liked the place. They said come back Sun. and we'll have some, and sure enough they did. Awesome shop, extremely clean, big variety, happy to answer questions, was honest with me. Anyhow, I've got fishies to watch before lights go off!
  4. Your definition is exactly in the direction I'm leaning. Over the course of the day today I've actually been contemplating a couple of powerheads for water movement. The question regarding the 2217 was due to finding a new one for a really good price. I know that the biological isn't an issue, and with my 20tall I was dosing regularly. I still have all my dry ferts sitting in a box here. I'm interested in the canister as it's really easy to add an external co2 reactor. I jumped on the eheim due to the zero bybass of it. The fluval 104 is one of my most hated purchases, bypass is terrible, and the check ball in the intake blew off while priming it one day blowing all sorts of disgusting crap into the tank. I don't know, honestly I haven't decided what route I'm going to go for filtration, such as it is with a heavily planted tank, yet. That's the point of the questions I have to ask right now.
  5. So the common and relatively cheap 45 gallon 4 foot tanks wouldn't be too small? Is a general concensus? As for load - as heavy as I can get away with. More fins=more plants!
  6. What is too small of a tank for 2217? And on the other end of the scale too large? Am currently looking for a tank, so this question might help. Other ifo: Will be heavily planted community tank, likely a homemade spraybar and inline CO2 reactor on the outlet.
  7. From the sunny Okanagan in BC originally. Came here for work. Not new to aquaria, just couldn't bring everything here. My finned friends are cramped in a 10 gallon right now with 10-15 pounds of bog wood, and some small leaved mystery stem plant floating on the top. A whisper hob, and a tiny powerhead. 1 ugly unknown Apistos (he was the ugliest thinnest looking one at the store), 7-9 danios (seems to be a different amount every time I count), 1 last surviving ghost shrimp (it was the largest - i suspect heimlich the ram ate the rest), 1 malaysian wood shrimp (I dig the mood change colours!), and 1 perpetually pregnant guppie that brotherinlaw gave to me. They moved from a heavily planted 20 tall that I was told to leave behind, although I'm allowed to look for a larger tank now that we're here. I'm looking for a 4 foot tank to start a new planted tank. 45+ gallons, preferably 60-90. My fluval 104, coralife twin 2' t5 fixture, glass top made it here - but thinking I'm going to sell them on forum here to help fund new tank. Took one sponge and some ceramic bio media out of the fluval for the hob - which seems to be working quite effectively. A whitish cloudy bloom started in the tank within 8 hours, was scary looking within 12 hours and gone within 24. Maybe someone here can give me a definitive answer on this one: Chlorine or chloramines in the water here in Calgary? hmm, I think that was a lot all at once - I'll leave my questions for the forum. Thanks for the greetings everyone - I wasn't expecting any answer in this post.

    hi there

Relatively new to AB, gathering everything to set up a new tank, someone from PlantedTank sent me in this direction, and I'm excited about this forum!
