Well looks like the male has made a brief appearance at feeding time, then disappears again.

Thanks for the info Jason. The tank is a 70gal moderately to heavily planted (somewhere in between). I will keep my eye out for him.

Looking for some help from some of you that have kept and successfully bred cockatoo apistos. I haven't seen my male in a day or two. Usually he is out lurking chasing fish especially the Columbian Ram. The female would come out from "hiding" when I put food in the tank. Now the male is "missing" and the female I see more often. She is still a nice gold colour and very territorial, if anyone gets too close to where she was hiding before she is quick to chase them away. My question is, Is this normal for the male to go missing while they are breeding? Or do I assume the worst and that he is no longer? Hopefully this is normal because he is my favorite fish I have.

If they are still relatively small I squish them against the glass both fish and shrimp go nuts over this tasty treat.

The shrimp even go so far as to start picking at and snails that have fallen to the bottom that have their bodies exposed.

I am no expert in this area. When I decided to try my hand at aquatic plants I used florite substrate and added over top my existing green gravel. I removed the fish, had them in bowls all over the place and adjusted the plants once the substrate was in place. The cloudiness had mostly settled within a couple of hours then I put the fish back in the tank. Just my experience. Good luck with the task at hand.

I picked up the the batman snail at BA's. Looks kind of like a bat, they tell me that is a type of nerite snail. I haven't been able to find any info on them. From what I can tell it leaves my plants alone and looks cool. If anyone has any info on these or knows where I can find some that would be cool. Thanks.

I have some danios, kuhlis, a BN pleco, red rainbow shark, a zebra and batman snail. The Cherries ended up in there by accident. I was moving duckweed from my shrimp tanks to my community tank. I guess I had a couple of stow-aways on the duckweed. I left them in there and they are surviving. Lots of hiding place I guess.

My kuhlis do much the same thing. I hardly see them (they are always hiding in the roots of my plants), if I see them in the morning before the lights go on they are just sitting there. When I get close to the tank they bolt; swim up to the surface and make a couple of laps around the tank before settling back down amongst the plants.
