  1. I do not know about bio-wheel filters but on my 72 gallon I run a fluval 304 and an AquaClear 500 with an Aquaclear 300 running as a backup for my hospital tank. The power filters are great for mechanical filteration, meaning that less junk has to go through the cannister so that it runs longer before needed to be cleaned.

  2. The most important factor in sizing a sump is to figure out how much water comes down from the tank into the sump after the power is out. An air hole on the pump outlet just below the water level will break the syphon so that the tank will not overflow the sump. Here is a link that covers sumps and plumbing fairly well and I know I have a sump overflow calculater somewhere but I will have to find it. HTH

    Found it, http://reefcentral.com/calc/sump.php

  3. I have a pair of Blue acara and with current tank change-around, I was thinking about getting a Green Terror. Would it be possible for these species to interbreed? Not that I am breeding but I am just curious.

  4. I am a newbie to planted tanks, having only limited experience with hygrophilla polysperma and Java fern. I tried a swordplant once, but it failed miserably. Probably due to low light. I am planning a 33 gallon southeast Asia tank and am looking at having some species of anubias, hygrophilla, and crypts. I am wondering if normal gravel would be good enough for these plants or if I should go with an earth/peat mix, or with a commercial substrate? I have a double 36" T8 fixture, currently with 18000K Powerglo bulbs that are over a year old so I will have about 2 wpg. I do not want to have to run CO2 and will probably be using Seachem excel, (or whatever it is called, brain dead at the moment). Opinions?

  5. I just picked up a T5 double strip with a 21W 10000K daylight and a 21W true actinic 03 bulb. It is a 36" strip but when I put it on the tank, I noticed that it seems a lot duller than my 36" T8 double with 30W Power-glo lamps rated at 18000K, which are about a 18 months old. Are there 18000K T5 bulbs available or can I run HO with this strip? It is on my 33G marine tank.

  6. Contact your local pool and spa dealer or underground sprinkler dealer and they should be able to help. I am not sure, but I believe that cpvc is in sewer pipe dimensions which is different from normal PVC dimensions. PVC comes in various diameters, such as sewer, IPS (iron pipe size), and PIP (plastic irrigation pipe). It will probably be cheaper to replace the pipe rather than the fittings. The 1" pvc we deal with at work measure 1 5/16" in diameter and is IPS.
