Lastly, Aussie lungfish from Theo.
That's the winner right there. Words cannot describe how much I want one of those.

Well,
It's been awhile since I've done much photography, let alone share any pictures. This is a shot that I took late last summer whilst I was on vacation in Oregon. There was a butterfly exhibit at the state zoo in Portland.

Damn...short notice and same day as the opening day of the big Red Deer reptile expo/sale....gonna have to pass on this one.
I feel your pain, I might have to make the opposite decision.

Do you know what fish if any he will be bringing?
No idea, I imagine he'll bring something good though.

As sent to me by the Saskatoon Aquarium Club President:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings everyone,
Please note that our Saskatoon Aquarium Society August meeting has been changed to SATURDAY , August 25th. It will start at the regular time of 1:30 p.m. at our regular location at St. Timothy church on Landsdowne Ave.
Due to poor flight connections and high costs for our guest speaker, Rusty Wessel, we had to change the meeting date. The good news is he’s an excellent speaker and will be doing two talks for us. He will do a talk at our meeting and also another one after the BBQ at Fred’s house.
We are very lucky to be getting such a renowned speaker and fish collector. Please read his abbreviated bio that is provided on page 2. Rumours have it that there may be people coming from Regina, Winnipeg and Edmonton just to see Rusty. Hopefully they will all bring fish so it may be a great auction that you won’t want to miss.
Sorry for any inconvenience changing the date may have caused. Please be sure to tell any friends or guests about the meeting being changed to the Saturday. And don’t forget treats for the meeting!!
Thanks,
Kevin Kaschl
S.A.S. President

RUSTY WESSEL: Topics- “Collecting in Honduras” and “Southern Mexico to Panama with a few stops in between”. Rusty gave the latter talk at this year’s ACA (American Cichlid Association) convention.
RUSTY’S BIO: Rusty Wessel lives in Louisville Kentucky. He maintains over 90 tanks holding over 8000 gallons of freshwater dedicated to livebearers and cichlids. His fish room actually is a separate, beautiful, state of the art house constructed specifically for keeping fish.
Rusty’s specialty is Central American fish having gone on about 60 collecting trips over almost 25 years. He has traveled extensively in Central America as well as been to places in Africa and Cuba. Considered by many to be the ultimate collector, he has introduced many new species of fish to the aquarium hobby. He even has a fish named after him, Theraps Wesseli. If it lives in the water, chances are that Rusty has either caught it or been bit or stung by it.
He is also a prolific author and photographer. His writing and photos have appeared in all the well known magazines in the hobby as well as numerous other publications.
Besides collecting, Rusty is involved in the executive of his local fish club and travels throughout the States lecturing and judging at numerous shows and conventions such as the ACA (American Cichlid Association) convention.

Well, not much to say, played with camera, clicked shutter, ect:

I was getting a bit of a time earlier about posting pictures so here's a few snapshots from my reef tank,
I promise to try and get some good quality shots soon.

I took it to a place that works with metals, I think sheet metals and stuff. He charged me $5 and used a piece of scrap that he bent and mounted inside the box for a reflector.
This is not generally not recommended with T5 lighting. You quite honestly can double your usable light output by using proper individual reflectors with each bulb.

Froggie is the one to ask...and I suspect that he will suggest the Canon.
...except for the fact I use a Nikon. Honestly though, both Nikon and Canon produce excellent equipment and can take comparable pictures overall.

It's the type of dog you want to break into a house, walk by the fish tank and steal the dog
Tank? Try Tanks.

Two more from yesterday at the breeders;

Well myself and Ellie got home late last night from Alberta with a wonderful new acquisition. May I introduce to you all Ogami, our 8 week old Shiba Inu Puppy:
The little guy is already pure fuzzy energy.

When is the new dad buying the round of beer he promised? :drunk:

I'm not Christian but I do have a number,
1 Apteronotus albifrons [15" Black Ghost Knife]
1 Hemibagrus wyckii
2 Lepisosteus platyrhincus [Florida gar]
1 Oxydoras niger
1 Polypterus bicher lapardei
2 Polpyterus delhezi
2 Polypterus endlicheri endlicheri
4 Polypterus ornatipinnis
2 Polypterus senegalus senegalus
2 Potamotrygon motoro
1 Tetraodon mbu
...lungfish are next I think
-
I always have a number of more common catfish sticking around, plecos and corydoras. At the moment my most interesting kittyfish are my Hemibagarus wyckii and Oxydoras niger.
-
I would give my left eye to be able to take photos as good as those.
Deal. When can I pick it up?
Oh and I imagine that sometime fairly soon I'll pick up another variety or two of the creepy critters.
-
Nice to see some more photos out of you Sean, even if they aren't fish! Great looking spider too!
I'll try to take more. I haven't touched the camera in months and my skills have suffered.
-
Arachnophobia sufferers be warned!
Here be pictures of one exceedingly harmless, yet moderately larger spider. This is our male Rose Haired Tarantula [Gramastola rosea].
-
Well it's official my tank of "the unwanted and unsellable" is up and running
I have one of those! It's got big predators in it -roll- -roll-
-
Potamotrygon reticulatus, it will still reach over a foot in diameter.
-
Sure, I'll bite:
I really ought to get on the ball and take a more recent set of pictures.
-
Nice shot. I'll take a more serious look later when I'm on a reasonable monitor. Looks like you had the flash a little far back though, blew the exposure on the rock.
-
Iam sorry I think I missed the point of the video.
Feed hybrids to bigger fish.
I didint know oscar's were hybrids. The point wasn't that Oscars are hybrids, they're not, but that they are a bigger fish.
-
Iam sure every one keeps fish that will inter breed, so what I also wanted to know is what do you do when it happens?
It never happens to me. A responsible aquarist does not keep species with the potential to hybridize together in the same tank. If it ever did? I'd cull the fry immediately.
I mean ususualy the fish created by mixing will not will not be able to have more fryThat's not correct. I have no idea why this myth that all hybrids are sterile keeps getting propagated.
