I figured I may as well throw this picture up here as well to get some reactions.

Unfortunately not. That was just a one of a few quick pictures I took. I’ll make an attempt to do a real photo-session with the rays once I have some time. Oh sorry let me clear this up. MORE! So er... you're sick of pictures then?

She's still young, only about 8-9" in diameter.

I haven't posted a picture in awhile, so I thought I'd share this one of my Potamotrygon motoro female in the aquarium. Enjoy.

Very cool, I've wanted one for awhile myself.

Well, Tommorow I'll take a number of pictures of my tanks and fishroom and post them here. You guys can comment on the pictures you like and detail why. Sean

Working on that, I still need to figure out how to get really good shots of tanks. I didn't really make an attempt to take any last night since I was there to relax and have a few beer. The photography session was just an aside. Which leads me to ask, what sort of pictures do you guys prefer to show a room. Would you prefer shots like these here: http://www.thecichlidgallery.com/cr_tour.htm Or shots of the front of each individual tank? That sort of thing.

I went to a friends last night for a number of beers in his amazing fishroom. I do not kid when I say it is the most impressive that I've ever had the chance to see. He's running about 1600 gallons and his fish are incredible. While I was there I took the opportunity to take a few pictures. Rather then flooding the board with pictures I'm just going to link to the gallery I setup from him on the Saskatoonaquarium site. http://saskatoonaquarium.com/gallery/Blees/ Enjoy.

It's alright though! The girlfriend says I'm allowed to look as long as I don't touch!

Not sure, I've still got to get used to it. The minimum focusing distance is about 1.5ft vs. the 11.4 inches for the 18-55mm kit lens. I find it very difficult to fill the frame with the fish because of it, all these tropheus shots were crops.

Molino, ISO 200 for all shots.

I caught my Tropheus sp. black "pemba" spawning this afternoon. It gave me a good chance to take a few shots with my new lens. All shots were taken with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8, flash, shutter speed of 1/160 and F/10.

Molino, That's an incredible shot. It's quite rare for stingrays, at least the freshwater ones, to swim through the water column like that. Typically they just mull about on the bottom. Here's a video of my Pmotoro doing something similiar: http://www.saskatoonaquarium.com/Pmotoro_swimming.avi My issues with taking pictures seems to be primarily the substrate. I'm using a fine white sandblasting sand that's very bright (throws off the contrast) and also seems to reflect the flash a fair bit. It doesn't help that their tank is wooden and has a very high lip which hides them when they are close to the glass. I'd say that they rush to the glass pretty much as soon as they see me :P It's hardly a fish I can just move to another tank for the purposes of taking a picture.

It came highly recommended on the APF and elsewhere. We'll see what kind of results I can get out of it once it arrives. Side note, I'd just like to throw out that I'm finding it impossible to get reasonable pictures of my rays.

I ordered the Nikon 50mm f/1.8, should allow me to get a bit crisper shots. Price was low enough to be within my budget. I would have thought the 60mm would have just made it hard to get any fish shots with. Though I notice that phisphorphun on the APF is now using one. Are the benefits really that great over a 50mm as far as image quality when you're not shooting a true macro shot?
-
Molino, Why did you opt for the 100mm? Did you find the 60mm too tight for working with fish shots? I imagine I'll pick up a macro lens for myself somewhere down the line. Likely after a longer lens, which is after the external flash, which is after the new lens I just ordered... ...after I'm not broke from buying the camera in the first place -roll- As for my sig, it's latin and translates to "Let justice be done though the heavens should fall".

Those are great shots for the size of the fish!

This is a picture of one of the females:

Albert, That was one of his smaller females if I recall. He's hoping she'll spawn soon, notice that her tube is down. Spencer Jack out of Winnipeg still had quite a few small (2-3") wild caughts on his most recent fish list.

I decided to make a trip out to the our (Saskatoon Aquarium Society) presidents abode yesterday evening to snap a few pictures of his fish for our webpage. It turned out to be a bit of a mess. I had the battery run out shortly into it and messed up quite a few of my first shots by simply not paying attention. Since it's always enjoyable to see a fish picture I thought I'd share the three I put up on the site. Just be warned the quality really isn't there. [And as a shameless plug: our site is www.saskatoonaquarium.com, I'm the webmaster and the gallery contains several of the pictures I've taken in the last little while.]

Well... I also took this one, however I'm partial to the first:

Just one shot of this nice fish: Metriaclima msobo

Have you see my fish pictures?
