  1. At the moment George is in a 48 gallon, when he gets a little bigger he will move to a 120g and next year he will have an indoor pond after the house is built.

It's quite possible that "next year" won't be quick enough for that cat. You might want to source something to keep him in when he outgrows the 120 before he moves to the pond.

  2. I don't mind you giving him suggestions, but keep the hostility at a low ok? Reading crap like that ruins my day, and I'm a freaking Granola!

The language you chose for this post is far more incendiary then anything was said earlier to. The prior comments were spot on. These are fish that have the potential to get quite large and will require a volume of water which would be a multiplier of most reasonable fish rooms. It would be my suggestion that you read a bit more thoroughly before misplacing your moral outrage in the future.

  3. I pretty sure everyone knows that the Germans are fifteen to twenty years more advanced then us humble North Americans when it comes many things, including the Aquarium Sciences.

So how's that German-made shrine to Germany coming along? Has it been shipped from Germany to this backwater land yet?

  4. what are you thinking he might be?

Well, I took a better look at that spot and have revised to say the genus is wrong too. It looks more like a Copadichromis borylei then anything. Yet even that is a bit off. Given the fact it was mislabeled, I’m tempted to just write it off as a Protomelas/Copadichromis hybrid. I definitely would not suggest breeding or selling this fish.

  5. I really don't know what to expect out of that red empress...I would assume he'll be quite colorful right? I'm kind of new to this dominance thing, but I just can't see how any other fish in the tank could be the dominant male with him in there, he's litterally over triple every thing elses size

I'm debating currently if that is indeed a Protomelas taeniolatus, the genus is right but the body-shape and coloration disagree on the species.

  6. Chewere is probably most accurate, only species I can think of that is similar is labidochromis "mbamba" . The number of stripes , however , would indicate it is most likely of the elongatus variety.

The head shape isn't correct for a Labidochromis. The fish is certainly Pseudotropheus elongatus "chewere", or at least until they finally get around to separating the elongatus complex.

  7. Hope you enjoy!

I do! It's a very moody tank with an awesome lone predatory fish. Have you considered trying to do a large school of cardinal tetras or something with him? It would look awesome, assuming of course he ignored them or snacked slowly.

  8. Did you use neutral density grads to get the proper exposure for the sky or was that corrected in photoshop?

Neither actually. I don't even own any filters it was just my best case metering. If I had a tripod I'd probably have taken multiple shots so I could do a combination for full dynamic range. I've been thinking about going back and reprocessing some of the raws at different adjusted exposures for a similiar effect but haven't bothered.

  9. If it gets too big for the new owner, you can send him this way.

It's potential size is still quite a bit smaller then many of the other mean bitey fish I own!

Just make sure to take pics.

We'll see, I haven't taken any aquatics in a long time.
