  1. mine has quiteh te hum to it im going to have to clean it, as i never never cleaned hte impeller prior to putting in the filter, i just rinsed it a bit and stuffed in cycled media.
  2. Agreed with African Fever, perhaps you may want to rethink initiall stocking?
  3. alright... i have a giant chunk of driftwood in there with java moss, though and some unknown plants... but i will probaby remove them if they dont do well, and i want to get some java fern then... as a fore gruond. but i need something at the back to cover up the background to give hte tank a slight bit of depth. Also one type of floating cover, but i may just use java moss for that purpose.
  4. could excel be substituted for DIY co2?
  5. its submerged, so its fairly quiet, but mine hums kinda loudly... not sure whats up ill see if i can do any thing about hwen i go for my weekly cleaning, wasnt loud when i put it in, and the venuri is slightly loud but its optional.
  6. nice Jane, i just bought an elite mini here, really does seem adjustable, at max it throws around the tank alot. at minimum seems to be a good flowrate. its silent
  7. oh and i may start dosing excel as well ..
  8. the dimension are 12 inches long 6 inches wide nad 8 inches tall. the lighting is a 15watt screw in CF bulb at 6500k. Only fauna as of now is a betta, but may swap for a pair of endlers and some cherries if i can get my hands on them. I have a ncie large piece of driftwood in there atm and a sponge fitler takin up a corner, i would like a nice foreground plant, and 1 type of backdrop plant.
  9. yep basically it acts as a prefilter now that way
  10. i only have a small corner to stuff it into
  11. what's a good kind i can buy? or a good design i can remodify my current DIY sponge filter..
  12. lol if i get cherry shrimp, im getting a bunch of ghost shrimp in there for distraction as well maybe, get 6 cherries and 6 ghosties lol plus at the front of hte tank i have a small moss carpet and little crevices all over the tank under the wood. I catch my betta in one of them at night in a cave like place. Also i would also like to add more plants too but not sure of what to add right now, but i want a fast grower to compete with the algae, and want to plant the back area, and make more spots for hte shrimp.
  13. hm i can only get those on the southside of hte city lol which i cant get to easily, generally i have heard good reviews on those red sea nanos would love to get my hands on one for my 2.5
  14. hm i saw the red sea nano filters which i see lots of good reviews for at big als last time iwas there(months..) also isaw some of the petcetra filters llike that bio filter resembles the mini canister and their side filter for 1-3 gals resembles that of the red sea. Pricey though however.
  15. Awesome man, arowanas are crazy fish, i agree
  16. are you sure that wont strain the bioload(i will be upgrading filters either way and using the sponge you see being used as a sponge filter in it as media.. lol, jsut to jumpstart the cycle. i feel safe with shrimp, concerning their happiness and strain on the load, but not the fact they can get their heads chomped off every moment of their life under my care. Do otos eat hair algae?
  17. not enjoying the algae, want more plants in... also, not sure if hes a shrimp muncher... id love to have some cherry shrimp in there.. ill buy some ghosties to test out.
  18. Specs:2.5 gallon, DIY sponge filter(looking to replace with small power filter), 15 watt screw in cf, 6500k. Fauna: 1 Male Crowntail Betta Flora- Java moss Only so far. Maintenance-using a turkey baster i get lots of detrius up out of hte gravel and proceed to siphon it out, 50% every 2-3 days, and a 90% wc every 1-2 weeks. This pic was taken before a water change, the water is not yellow anymore. I don't mind the tannins at all so far, if its good for hte fish then im fine with it. Edit: Also would like to add that i currently have a hair algae problem, and i have been cutting off the lights to my tank for the last 4 days.
  19. i see the elite minis at londonderry pj's all the time... im looking for a filter for my 2.5 right now as well... would prefer external. DIY sponge filter could work alright depending on how well you make it...(unlike mine which isnt that good..)
  20. Anyone know if these are available in Edmonton? Neat little fish, would love to get a trio..
