  1. I find that my overflow and return pump are so noisy that the air pump is the least of my worries. lol

Seriously though there are brands and models that claim to be silent. Perhaps look into one of those. I have done the face cloth method in the past with great results also.

  2. I am running 2 double 36" bulb NO fixtures on a 36"X18"X 21"Tall aquarium(60 gallons). I have always used 6500 bulbs in past planted aquariums, but those were tiny tanks with screw in fixtures. What is the best combo of bulbs to use? Every aquarium bulb package claims to be good for plants regardless of the color temp(2800,4200,6500,10000,12000,18000, even actinic) And my "research" is not yielding any hard answers.

Also where is the cheapest source in the Edmonton area for your recommendation?

  3. i hav 1 cleaner shrimp right now gettin more 22 bucks at aqua giant seems like a good deal the bicolor loves the cleaner shrimp hes always pullin up and opening his gill plate to be cleaned the coper banded seems to like him as well the coral beauty i dont see around the shrimp to often the cleaner wrass mainly stays with the majestic and lemon butterfly will post some more pics in a few mins ill try a vid

The cleaner shrimp at AI are only a couple bucks more and much larger already. How long have you had the cleaner wrasse and does it eat food as well?

Nice new pics by the way.First time I have seen someone say they will post"tonight" and actually do so.lol

  4. I finally added my first angels to my tank last week.Went with a bi-color and a eibli. The eibli never ate and died in a couple of days. The bi-color is well adjusted however and quickly moving up on my all time fav list.I will hold out now till boxing day and see what's out there.I do want to try my hand with a coral beauty as I had one in a 29 gallon years ago.I also like the half-black,midnight,eibli,and cherub angels quite a bit. The majestic would be a nice "some day" fish for me.

Do you have any cleaner shrimp or wrasses in there?

  5. Looking for 3-4 of the "55 gallon" starter kits. I know Walmart and Petsmart have them for around $250 Canadian and I think Big Al's carries a Marineland kit. Is there any better deals out there to be had.

If I can't find any up here I may grab them in the States this summer. I know the same kit that Petsmart and Walmart have is $150 US.That's still cheaper than $250 after the conversion rate.

  6. I used to camp in Penticton, BC at a campground on the edge of town. They had a lake/pond that was full of sliders and black bullheads. Might be worth a little vacation come summer.

I was there in 04 and I think I kn ow the pond you are referring to. Didn't have my fishing/collecting gear though. I had no idea what to expect. I have heard that most of those campgrounds are now condos.

I've heard rumors of people catching bullheads in the Bow River in Calgary.

  7. The only Ictaluridae as far as I know found in Alberta is Notorus flavus or the Stonecat which can only be found in the Milk River in Southern Alberta.

    Birger

I know about the stonecat. I have come accross info in several sources verifying their existance. The Milk River connects with bodies of water in Montana that are known to hold bullheads as well as black crappie.

  8. I threw in 3 males and 3 females. All veiltails. These were goldfish in there as well. I did not do anything special for them or worry about temps. It was one of those preformed 125 gallon ponds. By fall when I removed them there were about 50 bettas. They all looked healthy.

  9. Last spring I set up my outdoor pond.It is roughly between 650-700 gallons. I out thought myself and put the pond in an area of the yard that is vertually always shaded by an overhang on our house. Because of this the temperature in the pond never exceded 60 degrees F. the entire summer. This spring I am doing some more digging and going 36" deep in a section of the pond and I will be spray foaming before laying the liner back down.

I would like to heat the pond all spring/summer/fall to around 70 degrees F. My fish did poorly last year and most never lasted too long dispite bang on water quality.

Any suggestions as far as heating the pond?

  10. Do any of you monitor your pond temps?Mine has only rose above 50 F for two days and even then it only got to the low 60's ,then back again.I only have a couple of fish in there but the temps are causing the activity to stay low.

What kind of temps are any of you guys experiencing and how are your fish doing?

This is my first pond since moving to Canada so any help would be appreciated.
