  1. You can drill holes in the side or the back, its not as effective. The whole point of an overflow box is to skim the thinnest amount of water off of the surfce possbile, because there is a lot of detrius, enzyme, and protein buildups. IMO put the drian hole closer to the surface and just build a box around it. As for the return, put it on the opposite side on the back. Remember wherever your holes are, thats how much water will drain out of your tank. So I'd either have a large enough sump or put a 3/4" check valve on the return.

    Good luck!

  2. They lost Arnold. Aka were stupid and don't know the fish industry. And the lights well.... The front is usually lit fairly well but not dingy but if they timed it for when the sun was shining in the windows then i can understand how they got it so bright. It's the back with the tanks that isn't lit at all except for the tanks. Personally I'm not sure if this is for real or not or just a hoax because they JUST opened up another store on the south side from what i heard. If they do sell or close then I want the info on where to get some of their products overseas.

Hmmm.... Maybe i'll haveto pop in and ask.

    Thanks for sharing

    L

P.S. Isn't that arnold in one of the pictures behind the counter??? He's tall enough to be anyway.

The owners just wanna retire from what I hear.

I think they know the industry a little bit, they have been in business quite a while. And they would've went under if they didn't know the "industry" lol. I have no idea why you post such useless garbage insulting a very well liked fish store.

Honestly, once again, why in the hell would someone take time out of their day to post Aquagiant for sale if they were not serious? I think if someone did it as a "hoax", or whatever you wanna call it, It'd be somewhat illegal?

And as for their suppliers, goodluck! A proud Asian business man will never ever EVER give up his sources, or his secrets, due to competition. So IMO they're going to smile at you, hmm and haw, and say no.

  3. Too much light can bleach out your corals. Also there is a leg set you can buy separately for the Tek light. Nova Extremes are a good light fixture too :)

  4. I have to disagree with you Kyle....its like comparing apples and oranges. Yes the FX5 is an amazing filter(I've owned 3 myself) but it cannot compare. The FX5 is huge and clunky, as well as it has tonnes of bypass, whereas the new G series is rumored to have none. Also, denitrification works better at lower flows, therefore this filter will also apparently have better filtration capacity. I like the idea of the pleated cartriges. Yes they may be a PITA to clean and what have you, but it'll purify the water much better than that of ordinary foam. I think it'll compare to the likes of a filter sock or similar to a diatom cartrige. Also, I think the water will get dispursed better through the bio media.

And Chris, I'd have to disagree. 1.) We have no idea how this filter will perform against a sump, 2.) Its apples and oranges again. Two totally different styles of filtration. One is high flow high capacity, one is low flow no bypass. 3.) We both know we can build sumps for cheap, but what about the general public? They might not be as crafty as us.

    Just my 2 cents.

  5. Current sundials are the way to go, Coralifes seem to have crappy ballasts. Have you thought about going with all T5's? Tek lights are awesome in that regard too, seeing as if you have a Concept 112, it's only like 20" deep.

  6. i've found riverfront to be the cheapest for glass tanks, by far. not sure about starfire though. think you'll need a weelbarrel full of loonies no matter where ya go.

I heard Concept Aquariums went out of business (actually I know they did) and they are now buying tanks from Bow Valley Aquariums

Bow Valley also supplies all the tanks to Riverfront Aquariums as well.

Lol go to Bow Valley if you'd like, Mitch is the worst tank builder out there. Also, I don't know where you get your info, but Concept is alive and well. I work there. We're currently looking for a new shop. You should know your facts before you talk. :boxer:

With aquarium designs I'd go with acrylic if it was cheaper(which it is at larger volumes and some smaller onces when talking custom) The key with acryllic is it can scratch easily BUT it's a breeze to buff out and they have the supplies there to do it(cheap diy) PLUS a LIFETIME guarentee of NO LEAKS. Starfire glass + Custom = well.... $$$$$$

Good luck with the search and choices

    L

Starphire glass isn't that bad. It's still cheaper than acrylic, and if you ask me looks nicer.

1 (OT) That wasn't a very nice thing to say

2 Acrylic IS cheaper at the larger volumes than even the petsmart or Aqua Giant tanks. Compared to Aquarium Illusion tanks i'm sure some of the lower volumes are even on par in terms of price.

    3. Depending on who you talk to acrylic is either better or as good as glass in terms of clarity. It's a matter of preference. Aquarium Designs has a few acryic set ups and a Pretty Fluval Glass set up if you want to do some comparing. Personally i would LOVE one of their Framed Picture Aquariums.

I'm curious as to what you want built.

    good luck

    L

She already purchased the tank from us. You should do some looking around before you talk as well, we do this for a living.

  7. Aqurium Illusions and Concept have nothing to do with each other, besides having the same owners. Concept is currently looking for a new warehouse
    .

I find that funny as bow valley aquariums bought all thier stock this week.

Whats funnier is that they has to take thier own glass cutting tools and straight edges because the recievers had already taken them all from Concept.

They will now be ordering tanks from bow valley....lol

We have 70 tanks "sitting" there, and there yours? I don't think so? Whats so funny about someone buying tanks from bow valley? It'd be funny if everyone stopped buying tanks there and put you out of a job. It'd sure shut you up.

I actually work for Bow Valley and it was yesterday that we bought out all the remaining items off the owner of Concept, that is all the stuff that the recievers of the company allowed us to buy.

So witch one is it? I know that web site is down, but I would dought they would close since they are owned by Aquarium illusions and they are still alive a nd kicking.

  10. what would the %'age of water should i change for:

    210: Filtered by FX5, Fluval 404 (2), Emperor 400

    Stock: RTG, Motoro

    180: Filtered by Fluval 404 (3), Rena XP3 (2)

    Stock: Barred Midas x 2

    150: Filtered by Fluval 405 (2), Rena XP3 (2)

    Stock: Argentea, Barred Midas

Usually, i do 15% per tank every 5 days STRICTLY. But with winter coming up, i do want to save some $ on water bills.

    Ed

Ed you're probably better off taking some of those filters off and saving money on power rather than water. I read an article on "100% effective filtration", you should look it up, or I'll send you the link. You could probably get away with 15% once a week even if you took HALF of the filters off of your tank.

  11. Cycle for the most part is worthless because of it's short shelf life i had bought it to cycle my first tank and it took 3 months with a growing Koi in it. Now once the tank is cycled you can go without the bacteria BUT you might want to wait a few months to be sure the bacteria has innundated the substrate and all the decorations. At that point the tank is well established and you should be able to easily get away without the bacteria. Stability is the one to go with. I have it and i just started a new tank and wanted to test it out. It's been two weeks and i haven't seen a trace of nitrite or ammonia in at least a week so it does work. On my other tanks i don't even toutch the bacteria bottles UNLESS i have something disasterous happen like a long time power outage. After an outage of 13 hours with no water flowing through the filters and my HOB's(hang on backs) run dry A couple of caps of stability over the next two days and not even a hint of an ammonia spike was seen(or nitrIte)

Petsmart seems to push Cycle as the one to use but that is most likely because the company pays them and the employees are fed their propoganda disguised with fact(i suspect this but i don't know it to be true as a fact but it's the only explaination for the few good fishkeepers i've seen and their defence of this product). Stability and Prime get their sales from word of mouth on their excellence(NLS too).

    Good luck

    L

Where do you get all your info from? Propaganda? It sounds like your saying they're "brainwashed", like get real.

No chemical is needed, Cycle and Stabilty are both garbage. The only product I would use is beneficial bacteria by Marc Weiss, it's superconcentrated and works well. Ya know, there are other products out there too, best thing to do is ask around, and hit up the different petstores!
