  1. Golds had one awhile back. I was tempted to put it on hold while I pick up a 180g and find somewhere to set it up in my house and then figure out how to get a 300g in my house. It sold within a couple days, Dennis said he had 2 of them

  2. Im going to LA for xmas for a family reunion. Since I can never find a mbu for sale in town. (Gold's had one but sold) I was thinking.. what If I picked one up at a lfs in the LA area right before i head back to Calgary.

If you guys can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. That way, I can contact the airline and see if they have a live animal service.

Having just flown into Canada with too many fish, I definitely can help you out. Air Canada will not take anything labelled "live fish" as luggage. I found this out a little too late. However United will take fish as long as it's packed by the pet store(so I lied). Kind of funny, considering United and Air Canada are partners. I flew into Calgary from California with a full box(on United) and was quite happy with the service. Also had no problems with customs too. Hope this helps!!!

so there was no problems? I think I am flying with United.. or it could be Delta.. crap.. I need to look for my flights

  3. Hey guys, my fahaka is outgrowing the 20g I have at work. I will be moving him to a 60g thats already running and then to a 120g when hes outgrowing the 60.

my question is.. what can I replace my fahaka with in my 20g at work? People at work love watching him munch on live feeders and crayfish. I was thinking some figure 8 puffers would be cool. Anything else I can keep thats "mean"

I would really love to get an arrowhead puffer to put at work.

  4. Your are looking at a fish that is mostly an unfriendly kinda of guy.

I have heard of someone putting a common plec in the tank to help with the algae, but he was almost the same size if not bigger than the puffer.

I don't know of any friends that a fakaka can have cause they will rip ANYTHING apart!

They even love to eat all snail, even the baseball ones, fresh water clams, all inverts, and any fish!

Wish you luck though, if you do find anything, please post cause I know of some people who are in the same boat as u!!

We will see when he/she gets older.. right now everybody at work is calling it a wuss. It gets shy once people come to the tank to watch the feeding. But as of right now.. he likes to share his food with the goldfish.

  5. So.. my fahaka puffer basically destroys anything it wants to eat.. feeder fish.. crayfish.. snails.. etc..

I bought some bigger feeder goldfish from golds to see if he will move onto bigger feeders. He ate one of them, now there are 2 goldfish living with him about 2 to 3 inches big (fahaka is about 5 to 6 inches) and he doesnt mind them at all. One of them is missing the chin area, but I think its because when he eats crayfish, the 2 goldfish would come in and try to take some bites out of the crayfish.

Today, the fahaka ripped off a claw.. and it looked like straight out of lady and the tramp.. the puffer was munching on one end of the claw and the goldfish on the other. He also waits for the goldfish to finish picking at the crayfish body and then he will start munching on it. The goldfish also picks off floating food stuck to the puffers head .. ahhaha

Who said all fahakas were mean :)

ill try to take some pics. I need to move him into some new diggs soon.

  6. Woohoo! Oh yes, this is definitely a boy!

I picked up a female (nice pink belly) and as soon as she was let loose in the tank my ram was right there, strutting around, fins out, all "Look at me, I'm all that!" He wanted to get it on with her right then and there.

She was...less than impressed (LOL), though she did show some interest. But then, she was still pretty stressed from the car ride and being introduced to the tank. It's been a few hours and everyone has settled down for the night, but I think they'll be pairing up. :3

Its a reunion! they used to be together.. separated and now back together again. Maybe I mixed it up in the beginning, I swear I gave you a female haha my bad!

Let me know if you get some fry.. i would like to buy some off of you :P

  7. Hey guys, I just went to big al's and saw some puffers labelled fugu saddle puffer. Does anybody know what their actual name is? I cant seem to find any info on them.

    Thanks

I think I found it.. it was in the freshwater section, they are suppose to be a brackish/marine puffer.

  8. When I bought 2 crayfish from River.. they were the normal dark reddish color. Only 1 is left in a 5gallon with some feeder fish. 5 or 6 molts later.. hes turning blue! is this normal? Do I have an electric blue?

It all started out when my fahaka ate his pinchers and then lost interest. So I took him out and threw him into the 5 gallon feeder. When his pinchers slowly grew back, it was blue.. now after the last molt, his whole body is a light blue color.

  9. Hey guys,

What kind of silicone do you guys buy Rona, and which ones should I stay away from. I'm not 100% sure if the tank I just bought needs to be resealed, but I thought it would be good to have some silicone on hand just in case.

    thanks!

  10. Just buy a couple of crayfish and breed it yourself. Not too hard once you get it started. One batch will give you hundreds. I had a 45 gallon with blue crays and they bred and sold some and used some for feeders.

    Js

Problem is.. gf put the kibosh on more tanks.. however.. she fell in love with the gsps I just bought, maybe I can finally ask her if I can have a 100 in the basement :)

  11. I had a quick question. fatpuffer suggested before that I should be able to add a south american puffer to my tank. Right now I have 3 apistos, 2 german blue rams, and 2 geophagus suranimensis (Spelling) along with 8 tetras, 2 otos and 2 BN plecos. Do you think it would be too much to add the SA puffer to my 33g?

Will it attack everything in the tank?

    Thanks for the help guys.

  12. Since there isnt anymore room in my townhouse (as per the gf :chair: ) I have set up a 90g at my parents  So far so good, I have sand and some rocks setup. Im also using a FX5 for filtration. Thanks to fairdeal, I am picking up his group of polits. What other tankmates would you guys suggest to put in?

I will be throwing in about half a dozen petricolas as well as bottom feeders. (maybe a dozen)

    no suggestions ?

  14. I am going to be going to Aquarium Illusions/Concept Aquariums on Monday in Edmonton to pick up some plumbing to connect the sump on my 230. If you haven't had any luck locating the hinges let me know and I'll see if I can grab some for you. Cheers.

If your in Calgary. Check out Bow Valley Aquariums, my boss just went there and got some glass cut, and one of his tanks fixed.
